Okafor starts for UK and he dominates. Just a better low post scorer than Towns and would clog the middle to an unreal extent. This isn't meant to be a knock on Towns, but Okafor is a freaking redwood that you won't be moving. He's not really like any player that UK has because Towns has more range, mobility, and all that, but he's also not that height and weight.

Okafor is a no brainer. The others are up for debate.

Agree with this completely.

Don't know who I'd take otherwise, at least without debate.

I can see why people would say Tyus Jones, but personally, I'll take Harrison over him, all things considered. Having a pair of twin guards as talented as UK has is a huge advantage. Andrew took some lumps, some maybe deserved, others maybe not so much, but he is giving it hell right now and there aren't really two ways about that.

Some may say Winslow, and while I see talent, I think he's still pretty raw and could really benefit from a second year in college.

Winslow's a Houston area kid and Houston's basketball is legit and I'd put it on par with any other area in the nation in a general sense, and it has it's years where it's just loaded. Right now, the Harrisons, Winslow, Sulamion, and Cameron Ridley would make quite a "Houston" D1 team in terms of talent (Sulamion's desirability is obviously in question but there's not tons known about the situation right now either). In the NBA, Jimmy Butler, Gerald Green, and DeAndre Jordan were all listed as being born in Houston. While that isn't a "Chicago", it's basically as good as you'll probably see from most anywhere else, however there'll be some exceptions. Neither of those include areas that are basically Houston as well.

Tangent aside and the point I'm getting at here: Winslow is the a talented prodigy of a father who played collegiately at Houston, and has proven his own worth in a tough area to do so, but I probably wouldn't start him over Lyles or Booker. Lyle's mid-range game is unreal and the way he can showcase it in UK's offense makes it obvious-- stretch forward who'll be a lottery pick and have a nice NBA career. If we're talking about the college level and Poythress though, I think there's more of a debate, but I still take Poythress, at least a junior Poythress against a freshman Winslow.

Same answer for me. You're not going to convince me that Tyus Jones, Quinn Cook and Jahlil Okafor aren't starting when these lineups are meshed together. Part of what makes UK so good isn't whether or not they have the best player on the court but that fact that a team like Duke can have the top 3-4 players on the court but UK is going to put the next best 10 players on the court. That makes a huge difference. When comparing Duke to UK and you look at the fact that Duke's fifth starter is Amile Jefferson and the 6th man is Matt Jones now followed by Grayson Allen and Marshall Plumlee while UK is bringing Ulis, Booker, Lyles, Johnson, etc onto the floor then there you have it. :lol2: With the exception of Towns Duke can have the top 3-4 players on the court and still not have a more talented set of 5 players on the court at one time against UK. That's nuts.

Poythress over Winslow? Hell nah........ If Poythress over Winslow is something the masses agree with then my reasoning behind Cook over the Twins and Booker is looking pretty solid now.

Part of the debate should be a recognition that UK brings its most consistent, and likely its best, guard off the bench in Booker. UK started the season with Poythress in the top 5 and Lyles on the bench. Two of UK's 5 best players were , and still are in one case, on the bench.

Okafor is the best player, IMO. Then, WCS, then Towns then Booker then Tyus Jones. Since I couldn't make this my starting five in the front court, I would play Lyles over Towns if I were taking my best five.

My sixth man would be KAT, then Winslow, then Aaron Harrison and the three guards (Ulis, Andrew Harrison, Cook) would fight it out for minutes with Andrew's size and Cook's experience likely trumping Ulis' energy for me.

If I wanted to two platoon, I might take Winslow as a starter because Lyles size and verisitility make him a better fit at PF with a second platoon. I think that Lyles is a better player than Winslow, at this point, though.

So, after all of that reasoning, here is my two platoon:

Blue:

C- Okafor

PF- WCS

SF- Winslow

SG- Booker

PG- Jones

White:

C- KAT

PF- Lyles

SF- Aaron Harrison

SG- Andrew Harrison

PG- Cook

The best players, in order, IMO, are:

Okafor

WCS

KAT

Booker

Jones

Lyles

Winslow

Aaron Harrison

Quinn Cook

Tyler Ulis

Andrew Harrison

Dakari Johnson

They're pretty much the exact same size???

Pretty solid analysis, and I can't really disagree with any of it. Although, I really do think Towns is the best overall player out of the bunch.

I can be talked into Towns over Okafor, but you would have to be really convincing. I admit that I think Okafor could be David Robinson good while I think KAT is closer to Al Jefferson if both fulfill their potential at the next level.

Okafor doesn't play a lick of defense, and is basically limited to the paint offensively (where he's phenomenal). Towns is much more versatile on the offensive end, and well defensively it's not close. He's heads and shoulders above Okafor on that side of the ball.
