8th graders cannot be 15 before 8.1 and play any MS sports.

7th graders cannot be 14 and play against 7th or 6th graders

6th graders cannot be 13 and play against 6th graders and below.

As well as players an ineligible during the holdback year if they holdback in grades 5-8.

Does this change anything? I mean, those 15 year old 8th graders (who turn 15 after August 1) are going to grow up to be the kids that turn 19 at the beginning of their senior year, and are still eligible.... This rule pretty much just extends the KHSAA rule down into the middle school grades....

It just avoids Jim Bob from driving his teammates to their Jr High games.

I was just about to post the same thing. These rule changes won't affect many kids at all. Most 15 year old 8th graders turn 15 after 8/1 anyways.

Yes and no, there are more 15 before August 1st kids in 8th grade than you think. in 2012-2013 school year it was reported by KDE that there were 327 8th graders that were 1 before August 1st. Now do all these kids play athletics, no but some do/did.

Correct, it eventually caught up to them if they did.

A freshman driving just seems odd to me..If a kid is 15 as an 8th grader they should play high school ball.14 play 8th,13 play 7th, and no older than 12 in 6th.. just my opinion. It's not making them better by dominating kids 2 years younger than them!

Read the way yours is stated and the way mine is stated. On the KHSAA website it does not say a 14 year old can't play against other 7th graders or below. It says a student cannot be 14 before Aug. 1 of their 7th grade year and play against 7th graders. There's a big difference in the two.
