Judge sides with Adrian Peterson, lifts suspension

Featured Replies

Doty ruled today in Peterson’s favor on his appeal of the suspension that he was handed after Peterson pleaded no contest to reckless assault on his son. Peterson and the NFL Players Association argued that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was wrong to apply a new policy to Peterson for an act he committed before that policy was put into place. Judge Doty agreed.

This is something the NFL owners need to be looking hard at. In addition to all the bad feeling about Goodell the Judge in this case said he was WRONG. So one could argue Goodell is not only unpopular but incompetent at times and for someone making all that money that is unacceptable unless the NFL just looks at Goodell as their high priced shill.

Roger. Sheesh.

Forgive my ignorance on this topic, legally speaking, but when does someone like AP have a legal right to lost wages if he was suspended "illegally"? And I assume the union is his arbiter in such a case. Or could he fight this individually, considering he plays under a collectively bargained contract?

So now he files suit against the league for lost wages right? What about lost future earnings due to an illegal suspension?

I don't know doc but the next article up on PFT suggests the NFL could appeal and for now the NFL is reviewing the decision.

I saw that, and I think that would be a loss for the league. I'm no getslow, mind you, but I can see no way that an appellate court would side with the league on this one. So, if that's the case I hope the NFLPA goes after the league for the lost wages. Not to mention the lost endorsements which may or may not have been affected.

I am not disagreeing with you but I would have to review the facts and think it through.

I still think the larger issue is Goodell has to go.

But again, Goodell or no Goodell I will continue watching every NFL game on TV.

It's only the loss of $ that will send Goodell out the door. This could be a start. And everyone will still watch.

I would think, if the case holds up, that the lost wages from the league are a cinch to get back.

The endorsement money...not so much. Let's not forget that the ruling was only that he was improperly suspended, and that affects the league only. All of the companies that were using him as an endorsement would still know what the actual criminal case was about, and they would have every right to drop him, should they choose. I don't see him getting a dime of this type of money.

Probably. But wouldn't it be poetic if the dictator had that in his lap too?

Oh, no doubt! I'd love to see him squirm. I just don't see that particular aspect carrying that much weight.

Does the NFL not have some type of "behavior that is a detriment to the league" rule like the NBA used to get rid of that one owner? Or is this it and it was just put into place?

Well, I don't think it has to, it could be laid out in sum total just to make the pile look even worse for the commish. While it may not come to fruition, it sure would be a significant number that would be on every website known in the sportsworld.

AP should just start over, preferably with the Cowboys
