15 YO is terrible. Couldn't give it away at Thanksgiving.

Give me a call, I'll take it.

But, to your point: I think the 15 year is probably the least of the line. I love the 23 year, next I like the 12 year, then the 15 and 10. To be honest, I'm fine with the 12 year "Van Winckle". But the Mash Bill is my favorite and unduplicated. No one need throw out that Wellers uses the same Mash Bill, because I've tried it, not the same.

Besides the 20, the 12 is the one I want to try the most. I'm of the belief that I will never get my hands on a 23.

I had one bottle of 23, it was very, very, very good. But, I will take the 12 year anytime, and it is easier to get. I try to keep a bottle of it but right now I only have a bottle of 10 year Old Rip Van Winkle, it's 107 proof but still has the Van Winkle nose and palate.

I think I own at least 10 bottles I'd take over any of the Pappy or Van Winkle line. I've had every one of their offerings and own three myself. At retail the Old Rip and Lot B are priced pretty fairly -- not as much for the older stuff. At secondary and/or bar prices they are all extremely, extremely overrated.

Just in 2014 I'd take KY Owl, Eagle Rare 17, George T Stagg, William LaRue Weller, Barterhouse, Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Old Forester Single Barrel, Jefferson Ocean 2nd Voyage, and several Four Roses picks over the three 2014 Van Winkle bourbon's I've had.

I knew it would only be a matter of time before the Bourbon Snobs came out....I count myself amongst them :thumb:

Guilty as well. Went to a bar recently and asked for their bourbon list. When I got it I saw Jack Daniels listed. I left. Any bar that would include Tennessee Sour Mash whiskey on their bourbon menu is no place I wish to patronize.

Try living up north where bourbon is a new concept. 1/2 the places you go they offer you Jack Daniels or Crown Royal when you ask for their bourbon list.

I'm with you, I become a butt when people mention Jack Danials as Bourbon. After a quick lesson on the requirements to classify a spirit as Bourbon and and how Tennessee Whiskey is made, I'm sure people leave telling others what a jerk Ram is.
