My point is, you guys are quick to bash a coach at the high school level because of blowouts. And again, some of you are way too sensitive.

 

This is a game Holmes couldn't avoid. Being a D2 school in the NKAC, they are forced to play Lloyd, St Henry, Brossart, Newcath, Highlands, and Newport.. Holy Cross and Beechwood as well, but those are obviously district games. Nothing against some of those teams, but outside of Holy Cross, Highlands, and Newcath, my guess is none of those other teams would schedule Holmes this year if they didn't have to because of the wide gap in talent level.

 

Holy Cross beat Lloyd by 47 but nothing was said because HC only scored 68 points. But HC only played 10 girls in that game. Should they be bashed as well for the margin or is it ok because they only scored 68 points, compared to 105 for Holmes? They led 45-10 at the half, scored 23 points in the second half. Holmes led 71-33 at the half and scored 34 points in the second half. Do 11 points really make that big of a difference? Or do some of you just look for a reason to makes comments in Holmes threads because you simply don't like Perkins?

 

And for the record, while I really like Coach Perkins and know him personally from when he was an assistant with the boys team, I have been told about his antics on the girls side and can understand why some of you might not care much for him.

 

Instead of turning every Holmes thread in to a topic about the coach, how about praising these girls for their efforts. What some of you don't know is that not only are they great basketball players, they also get it done in the classroom and have a team GPA of 3.6.

Thus team can play a little too fast at times but the half court offense isn't the weakness you all make it out to be!

Can I ask what seems to be an obvious question? Why are these 2 teams playing in the first place? I am not from that area.....so there may be a reason?

Agreed! They are just like an AAU team. But we have also seen them struggle at times because they don't have an effective half court offense. Yes, they were able to win some of those games, but if I had those tools, this would have been an absolute perfect game to work on a weakness that could potentially be their demise. Maybe not in districts and maybe not even in the region. Who knows! But I bet that weakness gets exposed somewhere along the line. What a great opportunity to force yourself to slow down and play a half court without it really hurting you.

When coaches try to start working on things that simply don't suit the style of their players, that is when a team starts to struggle. IF I'm a coach I'm going to go with what makes my players successful. Not what others think I should be working on.

But "we" didn't bring it up. It is what it is. It's just the defense isn't really needed because we all know it's coming. No one has really said anything about their margins in a long time. Yes, that's partially because they have had closer games recently, but they have had a few since the last time we talked about it and no one really said a word. And in this case the defense was brought up by a Holmes fan before anyone said a word. And the justification for that was also a little "weak" (for a lack of a better team).

 

Once you open the door and provide and excuse why "it wasn't really that bad", you will get discussion.

The fact that the Holmes-Holy Cross girls game had a bigger crowd than the boys game says a lot about both teams and how special each team is this year. My guess is the Highlands girls draw a nice crowd as well and are in the same boat as those two.

 

A region match up between any of those three is sure to out draw some of the 9th region boys first round games and maybe even a semi final game depending on who is playing.

I agree completely and trust me, I am with you and don't understand why a Holmes fan would bring it up to start with...but whether a Holmes fan brings it up or not, I'm sure someone would have questioned the margin and amount of points scored eventually, just off experience in other threads earlier in the season.

You don't want to work on weaknesses when you have an opportunity? You don't want to improve in areas that could potentially make you untouchable? If you force them to learn in a game situation how to slow down and run through a multiple option offense that could help you overcome something you could potentially face down the road?

 

Boone, NCC, HHS, HC and Ryle have all exposed that. One of those were losses and the other 4 were an average margin of victory of 3.5 points. Do you think pounding the kids to learn an effective half court set against these teams would lead to less of a chance of one of them beating them at a crucial time. I don't get why anyone wouldn't want to improve anything they could. Yes, play to your strengths but always improve your weaknesses. As my momma always said, there is always someone better than you out there. Prepare for that game.

Some of you are way too sensitive when it comes to these girls and scores. I'd say the same thing on the boys side as well if there was a blowout.

 

Holmes has 8 girls who average 5 or more ppg and see regular minutes...anyone ever think that some of these blowouts simply can't be avoided because of how deep they are?

 

You think some of the scores are bad now, wait til next year when all of these juniors are seniors and so on.

I dont fault the girls at all, I put fault on Holmes schedule.

If no one was concerned about the score then the Holmes fan that brought it up would have been in here talking to them self and this tread wouldn't be pages long

There were various reasons for all those close wins and that one loss and not all because of half court offense defeciencies. If they were so inept some of these would have been losses!
