How to get recruited

Featured Replies

Ok need some assistance. How does a parent get their child recruited if there is little to zero help for the coaches at the HS level? He is currently a Junior and we need some advice on how to manage this. I have had my child send emails with his video link to multiple coaches however I'm not sure if it just falls on deaf ears or not as there hasn't been much response. I know my kid is not a D1 athlete but I'm sure he can play at the next level. So what is the best way to get his name out there for smaller schools to see? I plan to attend some summer camps and such however i am having difficulty finding those dates for the schools he has looked to attend. Anyone have any thoughts on how to improve his exposure?

thanks

I would say around March/April you will see the brochures or be able to go online to get info on camps for summer. Usually Mid March or 1st April the college coaches like to have that stuff nailed down.

You have to watch the camps as many are simply moneymakers. I would also say to not spend a lot of money on these recruiting type services. Get a list of schools your son is interested in attending and attempt to make contact with them. A HUDL highlight tape is a good start, you just need to make sure you are sending it to the correct person. Also see if the schools themselves hold one day camps that are geared toward getting a look at kids they may want to recruit.

Take him to the Midwest Combine 2/16 in Indy if you can get him signed up in time.

Playing devils advocate here, but you say that you haven't had any luck either when it comes to sending out film, how do you know that the same isn't happening to the HC in his efforts?

Go to the camps of the schools he wants to play for. Ask the coaches what they think. Email your hudl videos out to the schools Muti times. heck pick up the phone and call the coaches. Phone number are on the web site. Tell them your son wants to play. Ask them to watch your film. Worked for me at the D1 level.

If you don't mind me asking, what schools have you tried sending his film to?

You want to go to camps that a coach have invited you to. If they ask we want to see you at one of our camps. Ask for their cell phone number. Most will give it out at this point. Then follow up with a call right before you go to camp.

Zero help from the HS coach sounds suspicious.

The thing about this is a school can offer and your HS head coach doesn't have to be involved at all. Heck offers come to players that schools have never seen in person or at a camp. Depends on how the program views you. You think schools in NY know anything about NKY football??

I've known many kids to get noticed from schools who weren't even intentionally recruiting them to begin with.....

Coach sends film on Johnny.....college tells coach, Johnny is a nice player, but what about Jimmy and Joe.

...or, coach sends film on Johnny.....notices who Johnny is lined up against on the other team-- "Who is this kid and where does he play?"

This happens a lot. Hey coach we are here to see Johnny. Who else can play....

We are signed up for it. I am looking forward to see how he stacks up against some of the best. Hopefully this will lead to some exposure

Both of us have reached out to he coach to see if he could help and his response was literally " Im not sure what i can do to help" Not a lot of confidence there. He may be doing all he can im just not confident he has been or even knows what to do.
