Trinity Shamrocks 2015

Featured Replies

Alright, I’ll give this a shot, I’m sure thsrocks & others will fill in what I left out……..

***Note: All heights & weights are from the 2014 roster

Returning players Offense:

Linemen: The Rocks return 5 Junior offensive linemen that have been fulltime starters or have started Varsity games. OT Michael Hiestand(6’5” 220), OT Justin Karem(6’3” 225),2 Year starting Center Bryant Colvin(6’2” 260), OT/OG Max Martin(6’4” 275) & OG Will O’Rourke(6’1” 266). Obviously this should be a strength this season.

Wide Receivers: Trinity was extremely deep in the Junior receiver class this past season, they return Dalton Jones(6’2’ 175), Jake Woosley(5’10” 170), Connor Carrico(5’9” 160), 2 way players Santo Biddix(5’9” 165) & Rodjay Burns(6’2” 175) & Enzo Palombino(5’9” 175). Burns is a legit D1 prospect & has been offered by UL but the other receivers are extremely talented as well. Jones is tall & fast w/ great hands, Woosley is a tenacious blocker & as fast & quick as can be, Carrico never drops a ball & blocks his behind off & Santos Biddix may be the best athlete on the entire team, he had some injury issues this past season. All these guys made Huge plays throughout the 2014 season & playoffs, this is going to be an exciting group to watch!

Running backs: Trinity is actually kind of thin at this position as far as varsity experience, leading the way is Junior starter Jalen Reed(5’10” 205) who returns for his senior season. Jalen is a between the tackles kind of RB, gets the tough yards and will run you over, this kid will be playing football at the next level. Behind him there will be a lot of young backs vying for some PT & will probably come from the talented sophomore class who will be juniors.

Quarterback: This will be the biggest question mark coming into the season. The 2 leading candidates are Junior to be Larry Harper JR(5’10” 170) & sophomore to be Andrew Zaubi(6’2” 180). One would assume Harper will take the job due to having several starts under his belt from this past season but it will be an interesting battle to keep an eye on come spring, Zaubi is very talented as well.

Overview Offense: I feel Trinity will rely heavily on the running game early as whichever QB assumes the starting role will need awhile to get their feet wet. With the line they have returning & talented RB Jalen Reed, the Shamrocks should be able to pound the Rock this season.

Returning players Defense:

Linemen: This will be the biggest question mark of the defense, the only returning starter is junior DE 1st Team AP All-Stater Connor Foos(6’4” 250). Outside of him the only other real contributor from this past season was sophomore DE/NT Jermaine Jackson(5’11” 250) & I expect him to nail down one of the 3 starting spots if Trinity continues to run a 3-4 defense. The other spot will be up for grabs as the Rocks have a few talented Dlinemen coming up from the Frosh and there are some good Juniors that will be in the mix as well. The Rocks really need to develop at least 2-3 more guys in the rotation on the line to stabilize things, other than QB this will be the most interesting position group to watch as to how it develops.

Linebackers: Junior starters Vincent Lococo(OLB 5’11” 215) & Damon Lowe(ILB 6’1” 230) will be back for their senior campaigns. Both are fast, aggressive, hard hitting ballhawks that will both likely be playing on Saturdays. Outside of those 2 Trinity will need a few guys to step up but the linebacker position group is very deep and I don’t feel like it’s going to be that difficult to fill the other 2 open slots.

Defensive Backs: This will be the strongest position set back for the Rocks on defense. They return junior starters Rodjay Burns(2 way player, 1st Team AP All-State, 6’2” 175), 2 way player Santos Biddix(5’9” 165), current sophomore Luke Eskins(5’9” 165 & had 2 INT’s in the Male playoff game), current junior Fiddel Sydnor(5’10 185) and a crew of other guys that have seen playing time. This should be a strength for the Rocks D for sure.

Team Overview: If the Rocks get solid QB play & develop some guys on the Dline I really think this team is a state championship contender, should be another fun season in St. Matthews!!

You might throw Jake Woosley's name into the QB mix. He was the backup last year when Young got hurt and I am pretty sure he went to some camps last year and worked out as a QB. I know he played QB his Freshman year and I have heard from good sources that he would like a chance to show what he can do at the QB spot.

I didn't know all those guys you mentioned were coming back. It seems they came into their own during the last half of the season. With that offensive line, good things can happen.

Good point, Woosley did practice as a backup QB on the Varsity this past season as well, thx!

Great overview ShamrockChamps. The OL looks to be in great shape. WIth Jalen Reed they have a very capable power back and it looked to me the JV had some talented backs who should be ready to step up and provide a little speed. The receiver corps looks solid. I agree QB will be interesting. Harper and Zaubi are both talented and capable of leading the team. They have different styles and bring different skill sets and it will be interesting to see where that goes over the course of the spring and how the offense is set up to take advantage of their skills. I wouldn't count out Woosley or Spencer Blackburn either. Thats a lot of talent to choose from and some good options.

For defense I believe Nick Cardosi (sophomore to be) will fill a starting spot at LB. He had a great season and is very talented. For the D-line there are a few sophomore's to be who could fill some roles at DE and at NG and be in the rotation. Defense will be a strength of this team.

I also see Manny Harper (sophomore to be) working in as a return specialist and getting some reps as a slot back. Overall this team should be in the mix for a run at another state title. Go Rocks!!

Thx for the added info, all great points! There are definitely a few sophomores to be in my opinion that will see varsity playing time on the Dline, whether any them start or not will depend on how they develop over the off-season & pre-season obviously.

There has been some talk that maybe Burns was transferring to Male. Has anybody heard that and if he did could he play next year.

No he is not transferring, lol, just a rumor....... But also, ANY kid that transfers from a Private to a Public for a "financial hardship" reason is always eligible immediately, Junior running back Ryan Dawkins transferred from Trinity this past season and was playing for Ballard almost right away, did not have to sit out a year, that's the way it should be though. I personally don't think kids should have to sit out for any reason ever as long as they are academically eligible to play, just my opinion though.

FYI, the Rocks Will practice spring football again this year. I'm assuming it's to get a head start on figuring out some key positions although if last year is any indicator, it could go deep into the Fall, who knows. They will start up right after spring break.

Good luck to Foos hope he goes to Norte Dame.
