Long story short, I purchased a new led smart tv about a week and a half ago and finally decided last night to undertake the chore of setting it up and getting it running.

 

Setting it up was a breeze and it fit perfectly in the space with a small swivel table in the place of our old big screen that finally went out after 11 years of solid service.

 

Getting this thing to where it would find my satellite signal was another story all together. I'm quite sure they have less trouble getting a satellite into orbit. But I finally stumbled into it, and after quite a while of going through all sorts of programming stuff, the picture finally came on and the signal from my satellite box was being carried. And it DIDN'T happen through the satellite setup option either.

 

And this tv will do all sorts of stuff and comes pre-programed with all kinds of links to Hulu, facebook, Netflix...just name it. None of which I can take advantage of since I have no internet availability at my house. I DID find a signal from John in the neighborhood though. Now if I can only figure out his password.

IMO, they are doing too much with some of these TV's. Or maybe it doesn't take much to satisfy me in regards to a TV. I just need a big, flat screen that is HD.

We used ours last night to rent Gone Girl through Amazon. It's not available yet through TWC cable.

No internet? You still living in the 70's BigV?

IMO, they are doing too much with some of these TV's. Or maybe it doesn't take much to satisfy me in regards to a TV. I just need a big, flat screen that is HD.

 

Why in the hell would I need Facebook on my TV? I get the Netflix, Hulu, etc add ons.

I'd say they put it on there for the millions of people who need Facebook all day every day.

I'm kind of in a pickle. The best way for me to get internet service is to have it through TWC...but to do that they want me to do tv/internet package. I don't want to give up my Direct tv. Wireless through ATT is extremely expensive for any decent amount of data. Right now those are the only two options I have in the neighborhood I live in.

You don't have to get both from TWC. They offer internet only packages.

I admit it's been a little while since I looked, but at the time the internet only option was about as expensive as the cable and internet together. Just didn't seem like a good deal, and I "get by" with my phone, but admittedly would like to get better than just "getting by".

Internet in my area starts at $15 I think. The package I have is $30 or so. Goes all the way up to $way to much for home internet.

Somewhat off the topic, but I completely understand. The first time I bought a "Smart Water" I couldn't figure out how to open it. Have to go back in the store and have the clerk show me the tab I had to remove first.....

I do internet only through TWC and I bought the 30 plan and it runs about $40 a month. But I stream all videos and have 3 other people in the house streaming. I have no problems but you may not need the higher package.
