Great crowd! Great atmosphere and GREAT effort on the floor by both teams! Not at all dissapointed by the effort shown on the floor and extremely proud of the effort of 33 for Holmes!!! Can't say the same for the performance from the bench!! Too much time arguing about jump balls and perceived missed calls in the first half and not enough composure or coaching!! That effort was recognized by the players and added to their struggles. I will give credit where its due because they collectively pulled it together inthe second half! Way to go HC and way to go Lady Dawgs!!!

Regardless of the outcome, last night was a fantastic night for NKY girls basketball. I mean, we are talking about one of the 3 former sites of the regional tournament before the BOKC being 2/3 or 3/4 capacity for a Thursday night girls game. That is incredible. And the girls did not dissapoint. Incredible game and I'm sure when those two teams meet again in either the first round or finals of the district Holmes will be just as packed.

I was a little surprised to see Gulley sitting out late in the game. At first, I thought she had 4 fouls, but then asked my buddy and he confirmed 3. She played a nice game last night and was surprised she wasn't on the court for a lot of the 4th.

Agreed. IMO Gulley had one of her best defensive games of the year. 7 blocks I believe and some of them were monster!

 

On the other hand, Holmes and HC both have a great shot at winning the region! If/When they meet again, it'll be a great one to watch.

Oh...I know that. That's not you. But I just felt she had an impact when she was on the floor. Definitely the protector of the castle on the defensive end and a tough inside presence on the offensive side.

I do think this game will go along way for relieving the pressure of being undefeated and allow them to grow the way only playing in meaningful games allows!!

I agree. I was very curious how they would react when someone "punches back", as I put it. Well HC definitely punched them in the mouth in the first half and the Bulldogs reacted like a good team would. They stuck with it and continued to get after it. I was impressed! You could see HC starting to wear down about the middle of the 3rd and it was all Holmes from that point on.

 

I do have to give a shout out to Deja McClendon...she was a difference maker against a team like Holmes. It was clear when she went out of the game how the dimension of HC changes.

After reading this again and thinking about the game..Gulley being on the bench allowed Mayhaus to score on the offensive rebound pretty easily and allowed her to hit a couple big 3's while being guarded by smaller players. That in affect had as much to do with the outcome of the game as Holmes missing chips to tie it up or the sluggish start. She took advantage of her matchup and played a nice game!

Would like an opinion on this,but I would think that Holmes coaching staff should work on there half court game the rest of the year against zones getting ready for tournament play! Maybe they do but last night they struggled in that phase of there game. No disrespect just my view!

Englemon played the entire game without coming out, I thought that was kind of strange but I guess the coach knows his team better then I do.

All I can say is that it was nice seeing that large of a crowd supporting the girls!!! Kudos to everyone in attendance. Hopefully, we will see similar crowds at future games.

Uncommon shooting night for the Dawgs! But agreed they do not work the ball to the middle of the zone with their bigs enough to cause the defense to collapse and create space for good outside looks which in turn doesn't help create the space for the kind of drives they tried to make in tight space with a lot of quick hands on defense!

I agree. They looked a little lost in the half court at times in the first half.
