Jerry obviously thought he was good enough, but obviously you knkw better than he. You obviously don't know what your talking about either. If I were to show a snapshot of the "current lineup" of the Grateful Dead to a random sampling of a few hundred people, I bet that maybe 5 percent of those people would be able to ID the band. Show them an old one with Jerry in it, that percentage probably goes up to 80. The Dead brought Hornsby on for his piano playing, and that's fine. My beef is with his solo stuff. Horrendously cheesy.

That wasn't what they wanted. Which would make it hard for the average person to recognise Jerry. You claim that 8 out of 10 random people would, I think that's absurd. But I see what you've done, you have essentially turned a thread about the upcoming show, into a thread about jerry not being there to play witb the remaining members, congrats.
January 21, 201511 yr Jealous of everyone who has seen the Grateful Dead. By far my favorite band of all time. Dozing at Knick is so cool. Anyone ever listen to One More Saturday Night with Bill Walton when Sirius first got started?
January 21, 201511 yr I have 18 shows under my belt, mostly all out West. I saw them in Vegas about a dozen times,Phoenix, Irvine Amphitheatre with Dylan. They always opened for Dylan as a way to pay homage, even though 99% of the people where there to see the Dead. I saw the Jerry Garcia Band at Red Rocks which is a wonderful venue beside the hike. Shoreline in Mountainview had always been on my list, but never made it to that venue. Hornsby played a lot with them in the Vegas shows, it rarely rains in Vegas, they always played at the end of May there, but it was almost gurantee to see some storms during that the 3 day weekend. Soldier field is going to be on my radar!

Garcia is the only member of the Dead that I could name or identify him by a photo. Don't see how the band exists without him. It would be like going to see the Doors without Morrison, or Nirvana without Cobain. It does appear that there is a market for what they are doing, so if the remaining members can make a few bucks, more power to them.

What a lot of people forget is that while Jerry may be the most recognizable face of the dead, there really was no true leader of the band. They were never a mainstream band, they didn't thrive off of their studio recordings or publicity, they thrived from having a very loyal fanbase that would go see them play anywhere/anytime. Just because Jerry died doesn't mean their following did, Bob Weir made $75 million last year himself.
January 31, 201511 yr Author Just got my rejection notice and money order back in the mail today. Looks like im gonna have to fork out a ton of cash if I want to even have a chance at this show.
February 6, 201511 yr Author Watched late late night last night. John Mayer was a guest host and had Bob Weir on as a guest. When they talked about the anniversary show Mayer mentioned that the dead received over 40 million dollars in ticket requests from mail orders alone. That's nuts, this may be the hardest ticket to find in a long long time. I received my mail order rejection notice last week, but haven't given up yet. Pre order sales have been cancelled, so it will be a free for all once the remaining tickets go on sale. Some of the hotels are offering a package that gives you tickets with your stay, so I'm going to attempt that, but I imagine that will be hard to get too. Outside of that my only option is to hope I can get them online once the remaining tickets go on sale.
