Best Player in 11th Region?

Featured Replies

The Hollingsworth kid for Dunbar is legit as well. I don't think he's as good as these top 3 listed yet, but one who will be a force for the next couple of years. Putting up huge numbers as a sophomore.

Taveion is a special kid. Plays under control and has a real smooth game. While Williams was out for Dunbar, Hollinsworth averaged around 26-27 a game. He is gonna be special for the next couple of years.

As good as Rose, Johnson, and Williams are, their is a ton of young talent in the 11th. They are all gonna be fun to watch in the future.

My top three, rated as college prospects and at this point in time (with the assumption that all were healthy) would be:

Jeremiah Tisdale

Matt Rose

Darius Williams

Darius Williams has the highest ceiling out of that group. I think WKU and some others have already expressed legitimate interest, and he could wind up getting even more interest by the end of the season. Excellent at creating his own shot. An explosive scorer who can take over a game quick and leave the opposition wondering what hit them.

Jeremiah Tisdale could wind up being the most underrated of those kids in terms of where he ends up at the next level. Big game at the Jr./Sr. All Star scrimmage over the summer really opened some eyes, especially those outside of Lexington, to the kind of player he was. Unfortunately, he probably won't get the same kind of offers because of his injuires, but methinks that some school who sticks with him will be rewarded greatly.

Matt Rose is a kid who gets it done, and, without question, can play. At the same time, I think he's the kid in the top 3 who most needs to find the "right fit" in terms of where he plays at the next level. Great as a scorer, but in terms of defending his position at a higher level, he might have a bit of a lower ceiling. As a high school player, he's the best on this list, and can be effective at the next level, even if it's D1, but is also probably the most dependent on finding a system that fits his strengths and weaknesses. Playing with the Travelers and a nice performance at the Jr./Sr. All-Star game this Summer has definitely helped show that he can compete at the highest level.

Tanner Johnson is a name that gets lots of mention as well. I agree that he's a very good player and probably #4 on the list, but I think that as he's gotten older and had to carry more of the load for Lexington Catholic, I've thought Tanner Johnson has become more hit or miss in terms of being asked to carry the scoring load and doing it. He's also being asked to do some things, especially defensively, in terms of playing in the post, that will serve him well in the long run, but which are still in a bit of a "growing pains" phase for him. I didn't see what many said were some of his better games over the Christmas break, so maybe my evaluation on him would change had I seen those.

Some kids that I think are underrated, and could be very nice players for the right school at the next level:

Isaiah Tisdale - Henry Clay

Drew Trimble - Lexington Christian Academy

Cameron Thomas - Madison Central

Jarrod Griffin - Lexington Catholic

Hope I've not left anyone out because there are lots of kids who can play, though I have tried to leave out kids like Fucci and Lucky who have rides in other sports.

Tanner Johnson and Matt Rose... No one come close.

Best players in the 11th in my opinion (trying to avoid bias):

1. Tanner Johnson - has improved so much. No longer just a shooter. Improved defensively. Already holds offers and more are likely to come.

2. Matt Rose - In my opinion, more potential than most kids in the state but needs a year of prep school instead of going to Samford next year. Really needs to add muscle and develop his body. Would also help if he played on the wing more than the post.

3. Darius Williams - Nice player, but a volume scorer. Takes 15 shots to score 20 points. He gets a lot of attention for putting up big numbers but would be better for his team and his recruiting if he shared the ball more.

Would be #1 if all things were equal: Jeremiah Tisdale. Had he not torn his knee up in October, he would be the top kid in the region by a significant margin.

Again, these are just my opinions. Feel free to shred me in the comments below.

(Per HD Coach Q) I'm not gonna shred you Coach Q but take a look at the numbers.

Mason Co. (9/14 31pts 64%)

LCA (9/18 26pts 50%)

St. X (7/10 18pts 70%)

Lou. Central (10/18 20pts 50%)

Ashland (11/15 28pts 73%)

Boyd Co. (9/20 29pts 45%)

Rowan Co. (8/12 22pts 66%)

Dixie Heights (2/11 12pts 18%)

Madison Cent. (10/13 31pts 76%)

LCA (6/9 20pts 66%)

Montgomery Co. (11/21 30pts 52%)

Now as far as sharing the ball Darius has been doing that and his assists numbers are steadily rising. Darius has also been playing pretty good defense and has been crashing the boards averaging just over 6 rebounds per game. His all around game has been on display this season. In all fairness to Williams he's doing what his coach asks of him. Honestly I don't care who the best player is I just love to watch the kids in the 11th go at it.

38.3% from the 3 this year as well. Gets to line too. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

I guess my view of Darius is skewed by Dunbar's record.

The Bulldogs currently sit tied for last in the region in wins at 4-11 and 0-3 in the district when so many people had high hopes for the team.

I hope to see what Darius does on the AAU circuit this year when he is surrounded with more talent and on a bigger stage.

While I agree Dunbar has been disappointing this season, they also have played a grand total of 2 games with their full team. Not making excuses just pointing out facts. Regardless of who has or hasn't played they should have a better record then they do. Their schedule gets no easier the rest of the way either.

I expect them to give either Lex Cath or LCA a scare in the district.

All about how the seeding finishes up. Right now there is a good chance LCA and Lexington Catholic could meet each other in the 2-3 game. I don't expect it to end up that way but it's possible if Lafayette can continue playing the way they are against district opponents.
