Perhaps from the standpoint that I nearly choked after almost inhaling a Cheerio I thought I had crunched up. That was scary.

On another note, next time you go, as your doc if he uses oraverse. After the procedure, that will reverse the effect of the anesthesia in about 10-15 min.

Hopefully it never comes up again. I've been fortunate to only have three cavities in my 44 years. Kind of a miracle when you consider my mom and dad only collectively have about 10 of their original teeth between them.

Perhaps a little bit too much detail...but I used to get ingrown toenails in my big toes with a fair amount of frequency. When I was 20, I had a podiatrist operate on both of my big toes so I wouldn't get them any longer. Had the outpatient procedure done in the morning, and they completely numbed both of my feet - they put enough novocaine in that I couldn't feel anything clear up to my ankles. Walking was an interesting enough experience with two feet that had no feeling, but what got crazy was when I got to the office after the procedure. I was working as a paralegal at a lawfirm, and the paralegals' offices were in the basement. I tried to slowly "feel" my way down the first two steps, watching each foot as I placed it down on the step, and then testing several times to make sure I could bear weight on it...but then after I decided that was too risky, I just ended up scooting down the remaining steps on my butt.

Fast-forward to my mid 40's when I had an ingrown toenail. GP tried to numb it with 3 or 4 shots of Lidocaine but it didn't take. Agonizing. It got infected and swelled up like a balloon. Went to the podiatrist 2 days later and told him about the anesthetic issue. He sprayed with chloral hydrate, then shot me up. Said it should last 2 hours. Wore off before he finished wrapping up, 15 minutes later. At least he got finished cutting first.

 

No such issues with general anesthetics.
