Birds get the W at the Coach Bob Classic at S. Oldham.

Does anyone have details? I was in the area a few miles down the road, but only to attend a bigger game at the Yum Center.

I heard Highlands scored the winning bucket with 6 players on the floor. That would be a bitter pill to swallow from the Danville side.

You heard wrong.

Highlands got their first win of the season in one of the ugliest games I have ever witnessed and I have watched a lot of bball over the years.

The combined shooting percentage for each team was less than 20%. HHS missed a ton of free throws. Plenty of turnovers by each squad.

Highlands had a 7 point lead with 3 minutes to play - in this low scoring game that was huge - but let it completely slip away. Danville hits a three with 10 seconds left to take a one point lead. Harris drove the length of the floor and scored through contact at the buzzer for the win.

This was each teams second game of the tourney. HHS played much better on Friday in a loss to North Oldham. That was a three point game - I think 55-52.

The six players on the floor reference is correct, but just not at the end of game/winning basket scenario.

HHS came out of a timeout with just under 3 minutes left. Six on the floor as the ball being ready to inbound - Danville players trying to match up and of course one player left unguarded. Harris quickly exited the floor as the ball was being inbounded - Mitchell Cain broke to the goal and scored an easy layup.

Total failure on the part of the officials to count players. Heads up play by Parker Harris to dive on the floor at the scorers table to give the look that he was checking in.

Which Bird was unguarded?

Mitchell Cain

Oooh. Not good.

Nice win for Highlands. Danville was playing without their best player Cody Wooldridge for the 4th straight game. Was told he has been suspended. Everybody knows that has watched Danville play he is their best player hands down.

Why not good?

6th man not guarded, correct?

Not exactly sure if he was unguarded or was the guy that broke free on the inbounds play. The officiating was absolutely horrible. There were probably a half dozen fouls in the last 18 or 20 seconds of play and not one whistle was heard.

Really does not matter at the end of the day, Highlands got a win and now hopefully can string another together today and try and pick things up in the new year.

It's never good as an official to let 6 players on the court. Never. You always count. You always check with your partner to make sure he , too, has 5 on 5. Some misses by refs can be explained. This miss cannot.

Yes, sounds like a bad miss. But come on, game not much more important than skins and shirts at the Armory.
