December 9, 201411 yr The ones we know: Florida - Muschamp out / McElwain in Nebraska - Pelini out / Riley in Kansas - Weis out / Beaty in SMU - Jones out / Morris in Troy - Blakenley out / Brown in Buffalo - Quinn out / Leipold in They're out but who's in? Michigan - Hoke out / fired Oregon State - Riley out / hired away UNLV - Hauck out / fired Tulsa - Blankenship out / fired Colorado St - McElwain out / hired away Houston - Levine out / Fired Did I miss any?
December 9, 201411 yr Of all of them, only the Levine termination surprised me. Surprises me too. Don't know what they wanted from him that quick. Cupboard was bare his first year and they went 6-6. Then 8-4 and 7-5 the next two years with bowl appearances in each. If the 11-1 season Sumlin had in his last year is now the expectation at Houston... they're going to be disappointed with the next guy as well. Sumlin went 5-7 the year before...

GT and I have gone back and forth about this a bit, indirectly. I think what they want is a coach that raises the profile of the program enough that the Big 12, or another major conference, will come calling. I think the program has potential. There is money to be had in Houston and it is a huge TV market that could allow a conference entry to start recruiting Texas. I think that, at this point, the Big 12 is a more viable option for Houston than GT probably does. Although he did say it might be possible if the conference was forced to stretch to 14. I think that the most realistic Big 12 targets are Cincinnati and Houston, although BYU is the best target- which would put Houston on the outs.
December 9, 201411 yr ^ I'm with GT on that one... although the Big XII's problem is more immediate than the causes behind most recent expansions. That said, Houston does nothing for the Big XII. Expanding TV is what these leagues are all about. BYU would be their top choice, I'd think. Cincinnati and Memphis are attractive options for expanding the footprint.
December 9, 201411 yr Author The fact the Michigan hasn't made a move makes me think their guy(s) is still coaching right now.
December 9, 201411 yr Author Rod Carey at Northern Illinois looks like a good coach. Wonder if anyone comes calling, or has he not been at it long enough?
December 10, 201411 yr Tony Sanchez has been hired as Head Football Coach at UNLV. He was the head guy at Bishop Gorman High School, one of the top high school programs in the country over the last 5 years. http://http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/unlv-rebels/football/tony-sanchez-will-be-next-unlv-football-coach

December 10, 201411 yr I would really worry about recruiting. Well he would get the recruits from Bishop Gorman.... They were ranked top 10 in the country.:idunno:
December 10, 201411 yr I would think Houston would be a no brainier, aren't they a top five TV market in country? It's about opening new markets. They're already deep in every Texas market.

It has little to do with new TV markets, either, at least by size. If were, Orlando/Daytona (#19) and Tampa Bay (#13) would have a huge edge over Memphis (#48) and Cincinnati (#34), yet I think we all agree the later will move before the former.
