Trinity (9-5) defeated Meade County (11-3) 48-0 last Friday in Brandenburg. The Rocks now take a trip to Bowling Green’s Jimmy Feix Field. The stadium is located on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Kenton County’s Dixie Heights (13-1) is the foe in the KHSAA Class 6A Gridiron Bowl. The kickoff is scheduled for 7PM EST on Saturday, December 6.

 

In the semi-state game played in Edgewood, senior quarterback Drew Moore (6’3” 180 lbs) led the Colonels to their 48-21 victory over Ballard (10-4). Moore scored two rushing touchdowns with 150 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Moore completed 4 of 7 passes for 59 yards and a 34-yard scoring toss to junior wide-out Gunther Faeth (5’11” 185). Senior running back Luke Zajac (5’9” 190) added 105 rushing yards on 17 carries and three rushing touchdowns for Dixie Heights. Senior wide-out Andrew Shearouse added a 17-yard rushing touchdown to close out the Colonels' scoring.

 

In the victory over Meade County, the Rocks recorded the 201st shutout in school history. Trinity gained 398 total yards while allowing 103. Trinity picked up 253 yards through the air. Senior quarterback Ryan Young completed 20 of 24 attempts for 234 yards with one TD pass to junior wide-out Connor Carrico. Carrico made 6 catches for 71 yards on Friday. Sophomore quarterback Larry Harper III added 19 passing yards while completing 4 of 5 attempts in the second half. The Shamrocks rushed 26 times for 145 yards as senior running back Donald Brooks picked up 72 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. Junior running back Jailen Reed added two rushing touchdowns and totaled 37 yards on 7 rushes. Junior speedster Rodjay Burns returned a Greenwave punt 49 yards for the other Trinity touchdown.

 

Senior defensive lineman Landon Corolla was outstanding in recording 6 solo tackles and shared one sack with senior linebacker Zach Berger. Berger added two solos and one other assisted tackle. Junior linebacker Vince Lococo added three solo tackles with one assist. Senior defensive lineman Adam King made two tackles and earned one assist. King had one sack of Meade County’s elusive senior QB John Wilson.

 

Trinity’s Young has now thrown for 2,198 yards and 18 touchdowns. Brooks has gained a net of 1,380 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Brooks has 34 catches for 336 yards and another touchdown. Brooks has passed for two TDs. Reed has 417 yards on the ground with seven touchdowns. Burns (44 receptions, 620 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns) is the leading wide receiver for the Rocks. Junior Dalton Jones has 36 catches for 497 yards and two touchdowns on the year. Carrico has 18 pass receptions for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2014.

 

On the defensive side, the leading Trinity tacklers include Corolla with 53, senior linebacker Damon Lowe with 52, junior linebacker Brentton Ervin with 45.5, junior defensive lineman Connor Foos with 43.5, Loccoco with 43 and Berger with 42. Nine different Shamrocks have recorded 15 total interceptions. Burns leads the group with 4 picks. The Rocks have scored 386 points and allowed 246 points.

 

Trinity is participating in their 27th state championship game in the past 47 seasons. The Rocks are going for their 23rd football title.

Colonels is the still the official nickname. Red Colonels is used to differentiate Dixie's Colonel from their neighborhood rival CovCath, who also use a Colonel as mascot

Dixie refers to themselves as the Colonels. It's people outside of Dixie that use the Red Colonels. I assume it's just like CovCath which is just a few miles down Dixie Highway. They refer to themselves as the Colonels. The people outside refer to them as the Blue Colonels.

I don't know. I seem to remember some Dixie posters (in the prediction thread) talking about how a game played 10 years ago could have in influence on this game.

Thanks! Oddly enough, no high school in Jefferson County uses Colonels. Oldham County is the closest school to Jefferson County to use this nickname.

I don't want to speak for All Tell but I think he is turning it around on the poster and switching his words around to say something like, "If your dumb enough to believe a game in 2004 where that team a decade ago was able to rise to the occaision has any bearing on this team playing in the state championship game being played on Dec. 6th, then by all means, keep posting."

 

Again, I don't want to speak for All Tell, but know him as I do, he is saying as ludicrous as the comment relating to the Cov Cath win four months ago is, comments about a team from a decade ago are even more ludicrous.
