Final.

Well if ever a game proved that size doesn't mean all that much it could be this one. Not sure what they feed them in Trimble Co but they grow them big. Trimble OL and DL probably outweighed NCC's by 100 or more pounds.

My take on Trimble Co. and what they need to improve:

1) Develop special teams. You can't give up kickoff (they only kicked off once) yardage and you have to be able to punt more than 20 yards. That just kills your defense.

2) Throw the ball more. I'm sure the run game is their bread and butter but work in more passing. (See Navy when they play a good team).

3) Have to work on defense scheme. You can't blitz your corners every down. A team with any kind of offense will kill you on that every time. Defense gave up so many long runs and passes that went 4 yards in the air turned into 85 yard TDs.

4) Players gave good effort but Head Coach needs to pull the reins in on the assistants. They aren't doing to kids any good over-reacting to every call and every situation.

My take on NCC:

1) The penalties were excessive but I think the officials were trying to make a statement since almost all were dead ball calls. One official was actually good and worked the players and sidelines as a good official does. Talks to them after a play to let them know they were close to getting flagged or talked to the coaches and told them to pull a player and talk to him. The rest were just not in control. If you are going to call everything then the first time you don't you start having problems and that is what happened.

2) Kickoffs were not all that great and the kicker actually had to make a saving tackle on one return.

3) Defense was okay ( obviously with 0 points allowed) but they did give up some first downs they should not have.

Breds wasted no time in this one getting on the board (Thank God...it was freezing), and accomplished what many predicted......score often and get it to a running clock. However, the unsportsmanlike/personal fouls have got to STOP. I understand the players are "pumped up" but you have to learn how to control things, and some Breds players have yet to grasp that. If I were Wags a few would have been on the sidelines for the rest of the game to prove a point. Sooner or later it's going to come back and bite this team.

Henschen and Smith with very nice games, the screen passes to Smith were great, Trimble Co. bought, "hook, line, & sinker". Brandon Gray with a super job.....catching the ball, a fumble recovery, and a 90 yard INT return for a TD. :ylsuper:

"Tip of the hat" to the Trimble County players for not giving up the entire game. These guys played hard every down and had flashes of progress, but in the end just didn't have the "horses"(pun intended) to match-up with the Breds. Although they did have some "beef" on the lines, 305, 295, & 265.... Coach Franklin has the Raiders moving in the right direction. :thumb:

When the Breds scored to make it 34-0 and were successful on the 2pt. conversion, Coach Franklin went "ape:poop:", and was none to pleased with Coach Wagner. You could hear him as far away as Holy Cross. Maybe he was trying to "fire up" his troops:idunno:, but he had to know it was coming if the Breds had the opportunity.

06:07 NewCath Jake Smith 22 YD TD run, Hans kick.

3rd Quarter

I was just returning from thawing out my hands in my car and didn't see the time or the actual length of Freppon's TD run, going off what I was told.

Trimble's coach got all excited about the 2 point conversion thinking NCC was "running up" the score when all they were trying to do was get to a running clock. This should have been obvious. There was no intent to pour it on at all, just get the game over with as soon as possible.

If he really knew what the situation was and was just trying to motivate his team that is foolish because the kids are not that gullible.

If he really did not know why they were going for 2 then he really needs to get more game experience. Especially playoff experience. Get the game over with as soon as possible with no one getting hurt and move on.

Wags was astute in the Brossart game, going for two on the first touchdown of the night, thereby setting up the running clock for farther down the road, and not subjecting himself to be viewed as running up the score (which they certainly didn't do) by going for two with the score 34-0.

Well I am going to own up and eat my words. If you looked at that scoreboard from a non-spectators view then you would think is was a usual game for NCC. The Raiders had multiple oppurtunity to drive the ball down the field and control the clock. Of course stupid penalties, false starts, holding and personal fouls along with fumbles and interceptions beat the Raiders. NCC was fundamentally sound team and very discipline team.

Personally I thought the two players who had the best games for Trimble was #7 and #75. These two battled all night with NCC players and left everything on the field for their final game.

Best of Luck to NCC the rest of the season.

Well obviously with a running team when you get into 2nd or 3rd and long situations it kills you. That is why they need to be more aggressive in the passing game or even in the sweep area. Can't just line up with a full backfield and gain 15 yards in 2 or 3 plays against a good team.

But what really needs work is the defense. TC had some good size and some nice athletes but the scheme to send everyone off the corners is just asking to give up 80 yard plays. Make a team like NCC work for a score and maybe make a mistake or commit a turnover. It was just too easy for them on offense.

Trimble's coach acted the same way during and after the game against Walton-Verona.
