Mt. Rushmore of Point Guards

Top 4 PG's of All-Time!

I'm talking about Pure PG's not hybrids like Lebron

Magic

Stockton

Isaiah

Oscar

Does anyone else deserve consideration?

If so which of those four do you take off?

Bob Cousey. Pull Isaiah.

I'll never vote for Cousey. He was sent to Cincinnati to dismantle the Royals and get them out of town.

At least that's what my young brain thought at the time.

Magic, Walt Clyde Frazier, Bob Cousy, Isaiah Thomas

This is REALLY hard, btw. Names left off could be another Mt. Rushmore- Stockton, Kidd, Nash, Tiny.

How do we classify West, Robertson and Iverson? If we say they are point guards, my list changes dramatically.

Most list I've seen have Cousey around 9 or 10...he is an All-Time Great...but not Rushmore Great IMO.

Isn't Oscar the ultimate hybrid player? One could argue that Magic was as well, since he jumped center in an NBA Finals game.

He jumped Center in one Finals game when Kareem had Migraines or something wrong. Magic played PG, pure and simple. He was by far one of the bigger PG's but he did everything you expect a PG to do even sacrificed his scoring.

Oscar like Magic ran point nearly his entire career.

Fair enough- then I would replace Walt Clyde with Big O:

New Mt. Rushmore-

Magic, O, Cousy, Isaiah

Stockton and Nash are the toughest guys to rank, IMO.

Point Guards are tasked with making their team mates better- the elite ones do this at an elite level. How do we rate Stockton or Nash higher than players that were elite while also winning championships? It is almost like a QB without a ring- the differentiator between Marino and Elway. Do you have to have a ring to be on the Mt. Rushmore for point guards?

No I don't think you do. People get too hung up on a ring many times. A player can't determine his teammates or how they play. A great player is a great player...ring or not.

What lists? Internet voting lists are always skewed to recent players. I'll keep Cooz, he created the position.

Iverson has to be on my list. Point Guard, thus you can't go qualifying it by saying a guy scored, but didn't pass or vice versa. Iverson has the stigma of being a ball-hog, a chucker and having tunnel vision. It’s all true. However, during his prime, he took teams squarely on his back and lifted them higher. AI is both loved and hated, but how many other players had his heart to play the game? There aren’t many. And who could ever forget this? Iverson was special from the start.

Did he have handles? Youtube him breaking the ankles of greatest player in the history of the game when MJ shooed away AI's defender so MJ could lock down AI.

AI was ahead of his time and he would be considered the best PG in the league if he played today. PG's today are scorers, none today are better than when AI played. He led the league in steals for three years, so he did play defense. And even though he was a scorer, he had the ball in his hands to run every play on offense, that makes him the Point Guard.

Had the Sixers never had AI, they would have been perennial last place fodder. Put AI in the line-up, and he carried a team all by himself to the NBA finals.

Stockton and Nash are the toughest guys to rank, IMO.

No.

I've got JD's list:

Magic

Stockton

Isiah

Oscar
