Maybe when I get over 1000 post on a blog about high school boys I'll finally have as much credibility as a YellowCard and OTB, but from what I see, a persona that has been painted by one person that others have taken the bait. HC does not have any high level club players, so yes they play physical. It's a varsity sport. It's also a contact sport. I have watched them all season and it makes me sick to watch grown men discredit any bit of achievement by calling them dirty players. As grown men we sit back and talk about how much tougher we were when we played, less equipment, fewer rules, blah blah blah. But then you complain when physicality is introduced into a game now a days. Cooper, CCH, and St. Henry parents better take a good hard look at their kids before casting stones at another team's. Their kids foul and foul hard too. Maybe you missed the part tonight where our "dirty" HC kids went and shook hands with St. Henry kids before even coming off the field. Don't mention that though. Just keep enjoying your adult life by typing away tearing down kids with outright lies. I'm gonna go to parent teacher conferences tomorrow and complain about how unfair my son's Spanish quizzes are. I'm gonna complain about how his history teacher doesn't give notes in a way I prefer. I'm going to complain that his math teacher doesn't give him enough time to do his work. Basically I'm going to tear down every teacher and make every excuse for my son because he can do no wrong. Are you catching my drift... Let's be adults. Good game St. Henry and good effort HC. Both teams came to compete. Thank The Lord for people like FutbolFan that call people out on false statements.

EyeJustWatch, my advice to you is if you're going to be offended or upset about what you read on soccer fora perhaps you should not read them. People on this blog aren't "taking the bait", they are expressing their own opinion of what they see on the field. I have been around high school soccer, and top level club soccer for many years, there is a difference between good hard physical play, and underhand dirty play. In the last few games I've seen Holy Cross play they don't seem to know the difference. I could easily call out one HC player in particular who is the main culprit but I'm mature enough not to do that. I don't consider Futbolfan to be calling people out on false statements, he is just stating what he saw, as opposed to what other people see. That's his opinion, just as you have yours and I have mine.

You are correct that both teams committed fouls tonight, but it was apparent that there was at least one player on the team whose only goal was to grab, hold, elbow, and hit in the ribs the entire night. His goal was only to try to bait players into reacting, then flopping to get a card thrown. This is not Soccer. The fact that it took the referee and AR so long to realize what was going on the entire game is amazing! The fact that the coach did not correct it shows me that he either encouraged it or refused to acknowledge it. He can't be unaware of his team's reputation. Those teams end up having difficulty scheduling games in the future as no one wants to subject their players to this. Just play the game and if you lose playing the game the way it is supposed to be played, you can at least know that you played hard.

 

On a positive note, that was a beautiful save by the HC keeper midway through the second half when he laid out to deflect a sure goal away.

HC is an average team trying to compete with the powerhouse names in the regional tournament. They play hard, they play physical but I dint think the chippyness is thought. It's a combination of lack of game knowledge and having a desire to win. That program has a very good coaching staff and IMOP would not condone that type of chippy play you speak of. They may go into a tackle harder than you, they may taunt you, they may not be the best team around but there is no need to throw them under the bus and continue to put them down. Just like any other parent/coach, if you continue to bash my player or son I would get upset as well. Let it go , they are no longer a threat to you, you do not have to worry about how hard they play......

I don't think that there was a huge uproar over the play on the ball last night by HC. Granted there were plenty of fouls committed, but I've seen worse. The ref was letting them play and the players were pushing the limits to see what they could get away with. It was the antics away from the ball all night. It was completely unnecessary to create a wrestling match on the opposite side of the field. I will admit that it didn't seem to be the whole team engaging in this activity which leads me to believe that it could have been easily addressed.

 

Good luck to the HC players next season and, again, that was a beautiful save last night by their keeper.

On a lighter note, I can't believe that no one has mentioned the at least 10 point buck that ran along the fence 15 feet behind the benches during the game! It provided a nice distraction to the game. He didn't look too happy to have stumbled across a Soccer game.

It was a cool moment, and a light-hearted distraction. The oohs and aahs from all the players and the entire fan section was a moment of real, normal friendly, unity. Good job Buck!!

Was actually able to make it to this one and I'm not sure I agree with the hacking comments. St Henry's fouls were just as hard as HC. The player in question on HC got two fouls called on him and was lucky that neither one rose to the level of a card. Not sure what everyone wanted the crew out there to do other than what they did. Ref was 60 yards away watching play on the far side when the AR correctly noticed the off the ball shenanigans and had it addressed.

 

The deer was great though because he made his appearance after the second St Henry card and sort of broke the tension while the ref was explaining the card to the coach.

The problem was that the off the ball shenanigans had gone on the entire game and gone unnoticed even when right in front of the AR until the card was finally issued. if you watched this off the ball action, it was happening to constantly with the same player instigating the entire time. If this had been addressed earlier in the game, it would have been a better game. The player was clearly initiating contact and grabbing, pulling, elbowing and then flopping when there was any movement.

 

Believe me, I understand that there were fouls on both sides and don't view either team as being a completely innocent party in the committing of fouls. If the game had been played straight up, I would understand that they were just trying hard and not necessarily trying to intentionally hurt or foul.

On a different note, I think it's a pity that, even though the first round of regionals was being played at St. Henry's home field, neither the school principal or assistant principal thought it worthwhile to attend, even though their own boys soccer team were participating. It was nice to see several teachers there, in an unofficial capacity, to support the boys.

I wasn't at the game but hasn't the tugging, pushing and flopping become a bigger part of the high school game. These kids see what's going on with the international game and are starting to emulate their actions. Soccer is the most imprecise game we watch or participate in. The time of the game is subjective, the fouls are subjective depending on the situation and level of competition, and the level of sportsmanship has steadily declined (i.e., I get this part as your helping up another teammate and they do a fast start on you). We need to enjoy the artistic value of watching a well played game and praise the teams that do it the right way.

I believe it was Clyde at the match, I witnessed him crossing HWY 237 early this morning as well, he will probably try to pass it off as a "dry run" in his Halloween costume rather than admitting his attendance at last nights match.
