Purple88 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Really good question.... South Warren's Stregnths: 1. Great Defense - you better be able to pass on them because any 3A team (save Belfry) is not going to run on them. 2. Smart QB and good skill guy - really talented. Weaknesses: 1. Their schedule - this has been beat with a stick, but they haven't played a team that has really tested them. This can come back to bite them. BUT, their schedule should have a nice ending because they play Russellville the last game of the season and I think Russellville, compared to their other opponents, is just what South needs. It should be a really good game. 2. I don't know about their kicking game so until a more knowledgeable Spartan informs me. I question this area of their game. I actually like South Warren and think they can make it across town to WKU. If Doubletake could stop snipering my Purples, I would like them more. My pick is they are as for real and will play Belfry at WKU and it will be a great game.
ATLCat Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I am believing in them if for no other reason that no other team in the West in 3A is really standing out above the crowd. Tilghman obviously is a flawed team to have as many losses as they do. Central isn't as bad as people wanted to hope, but they aren't "vintage" Central. Corbin and Bell both look flawed. Their schedule is bad. It is what it is. Yet something can still be said for obliterating awful teams and also obliterating mediocre teams in similar fashion. Let's not forget South Warren was a horrible missed call away from beating Tilghman last year and reaching the Semi-Finals. They probably would have been hammered by Wayne...but our perception would have changed. Their D is good..not sure it is as unbelievable like their stats would suggest.. but it is safe to say it is probably at the very least up there with Belfry as one of the best units in the class. I think it is safe to say they have as god of shot as any team to win the West and probably deserve to be the slight favorite out of the lot.

PantherPride2020 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Yep. Honestly one of the worst calls I've personally seen and it was worse on film.
jcarter Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 The safety was a horrible call last year. Eblen was hit at the 2 yard line and pushed into the end zone the refs called it a safety and it ended up being the difference. 8 to 7. Question about there kicking game. Upton can put the ball in the end zone on the kick off. He's hit a 39 yard field goal in the rain against DC. Yes it was wind to his back and would have been good from 49. However, if he was kicking the other direction he would not have had a chance. He missed one earlier in the game with it to his face. Upton is generally good from around 38 to 39 yards out with no wind. As we remember last year the wind does funny things to him he missed an 27 yard attempt last year against PT that would have won the game. It was caught and pushed right by the wind. My take on the Kicking game is he is solid in perfect climate conditions. I think South has honestly shocked a lot of people with the numbers they have put up this year both on offense and defense. At the beginning of the season no one had them on their radar as contending this year because of the loss of the Seniors and the coaching change. Smith has proved that he is very good coach and he has the kids there at South believing in his program and in themselves. If you talk to any of them they will tell you they are not where they need to be and there is still a lot of room for improvement. Questions I have is can they stop a good passing team. If they continue to get the pressure that they have from the front this year then yes. If they run up against a good offensive line then we will half to wait and see. The other question is turnovers, fumbles they have a bit of a problem with this all year but no one has been able to capitalize on them except for the 53 yard fumble return by Adair Friday night. they have to solve that problem and protect the ball. With that said I am not sure if it was weather related or if it is a problem that could raise its ugly head when playoffs get here. They have a lot of talent at skill positions and are very disciplined in doing what they are suppose to do. So I would say they are for real. There schedule is weak no arguing that. I think everyone including the ones who made that schedule is surprised that they have been as dominate the past two years as they have been. However from my understanding there schedule is going to be a lot tougher next year. I can only confirm that next year they are playing John Hardin at the beginning of the Season, the district will include Warren Central, Warren East, Franklin Simpson and Allen County. That's 5 of their games. Through the rumor mill they will be playing Central and North Hardin, Greenwood and am not sure of the other two games. If I find out for sure I will let you know.
UK fball fan Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Being a relatively new program, I can understand the scheduling and like others have said, I think they've surprised themselves with how good they've been this soon. At the same time, it's hard to really get a feel of how good they are. Russellville will challenge them, but, thats about the only strong team on there schedule and being of 5a size, they should handle a 1a school. I was under the impression, they would remain in 3a for the next alignment, so, they wouldn't be in the district with WC, FS, ACS, etc.. Even if they aren't, they should try and try and schedule a couple of those teams, along with maybe a Glasgow, Owensboro, OB Cath or some other equal caliber teams.
jcarter Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) Uk football fan the realignment starts next year and they are moved to 4A in the district with Warren Central who slides back, East, Franklin Simpson and Allen County. The Average male enrollment over the last 4 years saved them from going up to 5A. This is the last year for current alignments. Purple88 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 JC, Thanks for putting up the new 4A outline! Wow! I really like the West's chances in the new 4A. I mean the survivor of District 2, John Hardin and Collins vs. the East representative - maybe Wayne County, Bourbon County or Johnson Central??????? Looks good for the west to me:thumb:
