Jeffersontown High School Coach Resigned or Fired?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if Nate Jones was in fact fired or resigned following their loss Friday night? I have heard that Gary Weiter, the former head coach and current AD, has taken over until the end of the year. Like I said I have no idea if this is true, right now it is just hear say but from a pretty reliable source.

I hope not fired. This has become a trend this season that is becoming a little reckless for high school football. Courier have a write up on it?

Not a peep from anyone, except a parent of one of the players that I work with. He said they addressed the team on Monday. Just was hoping another coach was not fired in mid season.

Me too, this is not good for hs football if it was.

I'll second that motion.

If he was let go for performance reasons, and some of these crazy/lunatic admins in charge have FLA/GA/Bama/SC/TX expectations minus their 6 figure pay, facilities and most of all...TALENT...well, if people think the last few offseason coaching changes were a bit much; then, buckle up your seat belts..because we've seen NOTHING yet.

Good luck finding people to take on expectations like that, along with everything else for literally more than just a few K on average/year.

JTown is in a tough spot. With realignment right around the corner, the Chargers are in position to be the doormat of their district. It never fared well for JTown in the old 4A but when they reclassified things got better. In the grand scheme of things, it is not a bad destination. Maybe somebody knows more than me. Perhaps the administration is not on board with the coach or have little faith in his leadership of the program.

The question is: What on earth can cause administration to fire a coach of any sport mid-season? Performance? Scandal? Lack of control? This is interesting...

I guess Jason Frakes of the C-J is sworn to secrecy or hasn't heard the news!

According to khsaa both men are listed as the head coach. Makes me wonder a little bit more now

I very seriously doubt it'd have been performance related? That would be a very negligent decision by the administration. They owe it to the players not to jerk them around. If they want to get rid of him then do it after the season but give these kids some stability during the season. Changing coaches can be much more detrimental to a season if they are done mid season. A new coach has no time to put in a new offense or even construct a team the way he wanted. They'd have to give it to an assistant that knows the system, but then resentment comes in from players and parents and there is no way to unite a team. Now if he has does something nonperformance related then that is a different story but if not this is a very bad decision by the AD unless he just wanted his team back?

What did they say when they addressed the team?

I spent a lot of time around J-Town because my grandparents lived there my whole life. I have spoke to a few old friends who have kids there now. They all told me they couldn't wait for the coach to go. The team has no discipline or order. From what I heard they have very athletic and talented kids but they need better leadership.

Just said the AD would be coaching until end of the year. No details.

Of course, but I was interested in the UK job as well before they hired Stoops! That didn't pan out.
