September 12, 201412 yr When is the dust ever going to settle? Not in any of our lifetimes. The dust already settled during my lifetime, during my parents lifetime, and during my grandparents lifetime. The dust will not settle with an incompetent community organizer in the White House who is more afraid of offending Muslims than he is of failing to protect American citizens. Islamic terrorists have been around since the religion of Islam was founded but there have been many periods of history when they have been kept relatively subdued. Smart bombs are not the answer. Tens of thousands of body bags containing terrorists and their associates, followed by diplomacy is a winning strategy that has worked in the past and will work in the future. Obama needs to fire Hagel and Kerry, replace them with competent leaders, and then give them a free rein. He has proven himself incapable of effectively leading the military or engaging in diplomacy himself, so why not delegate and enjoy two years of golf? I suggest Colin Powell or David Petraeus as Defense Secretary and Sam Nunn or Condi Rice as Sec. of State.

September 12, 201412 yr This region of the world have been throwing rocks at one another for centuries. It will never end. Then we obliterate ISIS. They only respect power. They don't respect democracy, don't want democracy, and those that do don't have enough power to protect it. We can't arm the world, some things just are the way that they are. We either have to let the region play itself out and keep an ear to the ground, or we need to wipe ISIS off of the map. New question, is our economy strong enough to sustain an offensive/

Not until they have their civil war like we did. It's not the US job to run/operate those countries. Your post also mentioned we can "suppress" the current terrorist, however, we will never eliminate them per your own post.

Your post also mentioned we can "suppress" the current terrorist, however, we will never eliminate them per your own post. Eliminating terrorism completely is like eliminating crime completely - it is not possible. However, that does not mean that our course of action should be to ignore it by doing nothing. Fear and intimidation have effectively controlled terrorism in the past and the same tactics will always be effective. I agree that it is not the U.S.'s "job" to run countries like Iraq and Syria. Our goal should be to make it as dangerous as possible for terrorists to attack American interests and to make it difficult for terrorist groups like ISIS to recruit new members. As long as groups like ISIS kill Americans and other civilized people with impunity, their numbers and strength will grow. Young Muslim men do not join ISIS to die, they join ISIS to fight and possibly die what they consider glorious deaths. For them, there is not much glory in being incinerated where they sleep without taking the lives of civilized human beings with them. Anybody who needs evidence of that fact should look at the age of senior terrorist leaders and their financial supporters and compare it to the age of voluntary suicide bombers. The dust will settle in terrorist battlegrounds only when young terrorists die in large numbers without achieving their objectives and senior terrorist leaders and their cowardly supporters feel their own worthless lives directly threatened.
