IMO we need to do whatever is needed to protect America and American interest.

America and its interests have been threatened? How?

America and its interests have been threatened? How?

An Islamic extremist group is not a threat to the US? Harboring terrorist, geonocide, aggressively moving forward with a military campaign is not a threat to ourselves and our Allies? Beheading Americans and marketing qoutes like "We will drown all of you in blood" are not a threat?

Again we are not a isolated country. We know of a possible threat. Should we wait until 3000 American lives are lost or do we act now?

Well, for starters there is the fact that ISIS has threatened to launch attacks on American soil...

Are you willing to make the country go through another war and bear the costs of that war to take out ISIS?

I haven't seen any reason why we have to be the one to lead this effort when our European counterparts and "Allies" in the middle east like Saudi Arabia won't prove to us they're willing to do what it takes and risk their lives, money, and resources.

If....

#1 ISIS were to detonate a "Dirty Bomb" in the US

and

#2 it was found out by the American Public that the materials came across our southern border.

would

#3 there be a nation wide outcry to build a wall and actually seal the border?

Yes.

There is already an outcry by Americans to secure the border but our corrupt elected representatives are just refusing to listen. That is why I believe that both Democrats and the Republican establishment want to see Obama to abuse the U.S. Constitution again by illegally granting amnesty through an executive order. They can criticize lame duck Obama for doing the politically unpopular deed, while those who finance their campaigns still get what they paid for.

Only, it is questionable what is meant by stable. People forget that Sadaam Hussein's regime was as bad as or worse than any going on now. He was a brutal dictator. His regime is accountable for hundreds of thousands of murders (>750,000) including the attempt to annihilate the Curds. It seems this little fact has been widely forgotten in the political fervor since to crucify G. W. Only thing is that Sadaam, as far as we know, did not attack US soil.

The record reveals that dictators like Hussein are despots but they hold down numerous opposing factions through an iron rule. The Shiites, Kurds, extremists and fanatical groups (I.e. ISIS) are prevented from gaining footholds and kept from factional civil war. What we often forget is the region is made up of factions that are at each other's throats without an authoritarian check. Similar things happened in the former Soviet satellites like Yugoslavia.

Are you willing to take a chance on another 9/11? But this time instead of 3 thousand American livers lost it's 30,000 or worst. This group has made no secret about wanting to destroy Americans and American interest.

This is very true. And this follows along with my earlier post...what people forget is that in keeping this "order", Sadaam's MO is to annihilate the opposition. Death counts under his regime are from 750 thousand to over 1 million. Now, I guess we Americans can not care...because they weren't American lives. However, I believe with our status comes some burden to further human rights. It is sad that, many times because of our own political infighting, these factious groups don't see that their very existence may in fact be owed to the fact that we as a people were willing to get involved and sacrifice for their people's betterment.

Have our actions in Iraq (both when we helped Saddam against Iran and when we went to war with them) furthered human rights? Have they in Afghanistan? Libya? Egypt?

One of my favorite quotes:

"What do [nations] lack to be free? What? The very desire to be so. Do not ask me to analyze this sublime desire, it must be felt… One must give up on making this comprehensible to mediocre souls who have never felt it."

– Alexis de Tocqueville

I really do believe that no matter how hard you try to make a country "free," you cannot until the people of that country have a burning desire. Iraq's people are deserting their country.

I want the sadistic, murderous dictators and tyrants wiped off the face of the earth. I really do. But our interventionist policies have arguably caused more instability in the middle east, which prolongs our stay. With that means we spend more of our money (which we clearly don't have) on a perpetual, never-ending fight.

My main opposition to unnecessary war are the costs. Both in money, lives and resources on our side, but also on the other.

...in fact be owed to the fact that we as a people were willing to get involved and sacrifice for their people's betterment.

Do you think most Iraqis would agree or disagree that there was more stability and "betterment" during the years of Saddam or what they currently see?

What about Libya? What about Egypt? I would venture to say most say they are worse off. I have a feeling a lot of them blame us, and then become against us.

If Assad was taken out, like the US was trying to a year ago, would Syria's people be better off? After all, I think it's clear that ISIS would have taken that country over if we had taken Assad out.

Question: Why does ISIS want us to actively engage them in war?

Is it a good recruiting technique?

It is and they just want the chance to kill as many Americans as possible.

IMO they will attack the US in a major way in the coming months, I actually wouldn't be shocked any day to see that there had been an attack.
