Campbell County 3 Newport Central Catholic 1

I've been to 90% of the games over the last 9 years and I've seen some attitude but not anymore than any other team or any that is detrimental to the team. Campbell County has built a nice volleyball program over the years and every year there are different team leaders. I can say that in 9 years I've seen disgruntled/crazy parents tear a team apart but never kids. We have the majority of our team back from the past 2 years that won regional and went to state, back to back years. I've known most of these girls since grade school. I'm not naive to think that there hasn't been any drama but the girls always seem to take care of it "themselves" or in house and rise to the occasion. I have no problem with a team leader or a captain speaking their mind to underclassmen if they need it. Sometimes a reminder that individual goals or laziness is unacceptable whether it comes from a captain, a leader or the coach. They have a new coach again this year, which is the 6th coach over the last 9 years. I highly doubt coach Curry would put up with attitude or eye rolling, disrespect or tearing apart teammates, not in her demeanor. Most of these girls know what it takes to win regionals and go to state, they been pretty successful at it so the captains and leaders must be doing something right.

Everyone sees what they want to see!! I'm not a disgruntled parent, in fact I don't have a volleyball player in the house but I am a former official & can say with certainty, there WAS an attitude problem on last year's team! Maybe not this year, but when it was mentioned earlier in the thread, I felt I needed to mention my observation!! Hopefully Curry has things in check this year & these girls make another trip to State. They have the talent!!

I can't speak to anything that has happened at CC ever in the history of CC, BUT I know the coach from last year also had major problems on her club team that she coached this past season. Parents disrespecting her, players disrespecting her and other players, parents disrespecting players. It was ugly. The club handled it with a parent meeting and a separate player meeting and things got better but it was pretty bad before the directors stepped in. She was a young coach and a very good one as far as X's and O's but needed to mature a bit.

CC new coach...I know nothing about her....but she may have her hands full if she is a 'disciplinarian' simply because she is following in the footsteps of a coach who was not. Players tend to not like change.

Good luck to CC. They have had great success the past couple seasons, great to see!

I respect your opinion but I can say with certainty that any attitude you may have seen last year was mainly brought on by last years coach. As wxyz stated same coach had a ton of problems in club ball. I don't know all the details on that but I do on the Camels situation past and present. I've seen more attitude from officials and last years coach than I have the players. 2 state appearances the last two years so we must be doing something right. I appreciate everyone's concern but the attitudes are just fine and sometimes competitiveness is mistaken for attitude. The kids understand that what's said during competition is over after a game, I just wish some of the parents and fans understood it. All is well in Camel land and the girls will push forward to achieve their Team goals.

It matters in the sense of NCC's future, which was brought up. If you are an 8th grade girl, which gym would you rather practice in every day? AC or no AC? These teams start practicing in July I think so it's more than a minor inconvenience. Holy Cross currently in a pledge drive to AC their gym. If similar sized schools all get AC and you don't have it, I would think that puts you at a disadvantage moving forward if their are school choices to be made.

Would agree with lawcats response. I can't see anyone sending their daughter to one school or another because of the AC or no AC.. Same would go for son's playing basketball or any other sport/program that uses the gym.

My son told me his buddy told him that NCC's gym was closed last night due to heat. Not sure if that is true or not. Anyone?

Students got out of school at 1:45 yesterday because of the heat. My daughter who plays JV only, had practice at 2:00, but practice was called at 3:15 because of the excessive heat in the gym. Don't know anything about later in the evening.

I disagree AC is not a factor. It's not at the top of the list, and there are many more important factors, but if it's not a factor then why did BBHS just put it in and why is HC doing a pledge drive now to get it? As the last 2 posts show, it's quite disruptive not having it.

and basketball is a winter sport - not really a factor then unless you want to ice the shooter.

IMO - It's just unhealthy for the kids to be playing in that type of heat and humidity!

So all football games, summer baseball and softball games, soccer, golf etc should be cancelled bc it gets hot in Ky? There are khsaa regulations and I'm sure NewCath adheres to them. Kids are so pampered these days. A little heat won't kill them. Would it be nice to have central air at the school? I'm sure it would and I'm sure it's in the works for NCC. But just bc BBHS happened to get air conditioning this year, you all of a sudden say it's a MUST. I guess the 90 or so students NewCath's freshman class didn't rank it as high as the 50 or so at BBHS when choosing a school.

I've been saying this for years......maybe even decades.

Obviously it is nicer to have A/C than not, but anyone who picks one school over another because of it isn't very interested in the sport. How did everyone ever get through all this before schools had A/C? If you really are dedicated it doesn't make a difference.

No AC - call it a home field advantage!
