August 15, 201412 yr And doing just that will be what ends baseball. They have to get these player contracts under control (especially guaranteed $) or the game will implode. $30 mill for a pitcher? Tulo making $20 mill and playing half the games? yikes. I think it will have to implode before the players will give anything back...but the owners don't have a gun to their head either.
August 15, 201412 yr I agree that Manfred is bad news for Pete. I definitely would not expect anything changing on Pete in the near future. If Manfred comes in and removes Pete from the banned list, that is a slap in the face to Selig and Manfred is not going to do that.
August 15, 201412 yr It doesn't matter the pious snobs in the BBWA will never vote Pete Rose into the HoF.
August 15, 201412 yr It doesn't matter the pious snobs in the BBWA will never vote Pete Rose into the HoF. I disagree. Pete never did anything as a player or during his playing career that tainted baseball. I think the vast majority will make their decision based on that, especially after he has served 25+ years out of the game.

I agree with the the bolded, I just don't think most writers like Pete and will keep him out due to their overly exaggerated sense of righteousness.

If that is true then they shouldn't be allowed to vote for hall of fame. The hall of fame should be for the best baseball players of all time and Pete Rose is definitely one of them obviously. So if the ban is lifted then the writers are not doing their job IMO if they don't vote him in.
