1. Mike Code- Year in year out one of the best! Hard working guy with a great system.

 

2. Chris O'hearn- State Championship coach and very solid basketball program.

 

3. Brad Carr- Scott is always in the hunt with Coach Carr.

 

4. Terrance Brooks- Paris will be very very good this year and years to come. Look out!!

 

5. Aric Russell- Smooth coaching job last year and great run to Rupp! CC will be in the hunt again for sure.

1) Chris O'Hearn - The community expects a lot out of this program and O'Hearn has met or surpassed expectations on a consistent basis. High pressure job where he has produced results.

 

2) Mike Code - Has built and maintained one of the finest small school programs in recent history after taking over for Willie.

 

3) Scott Humphrey - GRC - IMO the highest pressure job in the state and even though he has sometimes not been able to close the deal in some high talented years, I think you can safely say he has orchestrated one of the best programs in the state year in, year out.

 

4) Aric Russell - I mean, he got Campbell to Rupp last year. That's incredible. We're not that far removed from when the program was a middling contender that had trouble getting out of the district.

The first 3 rankings have 3 different coaches at number 1, and I wouldn't pick any of the 3 (Humphrey). It would be interesting to see a poll of who is the best.

I don't disagree with this least, but I think you need to have some kind of basis for the ranking. If you base it on current(3-5 years) and past(5-10+ years) regular season and district/regional/state success, Carr would not be on the list and O'hearn would probably drop out of the top 5 due to not getting to the region the past 2, almost 3 years. Mike Code meets both criteria above and would probably be #1 at this point

I know this is a northern Ky forum for the most part but under no circumstances is anyone better than O'Hearn and Humphrey. I agree there are solid coaches in the 10th but it starts with those two.

As you guys know, I'm a huge Brad Carr fan but I'd put him 3rd behind Humphrey and O'Hearn with Russell and Code behind him. Brad needs to put together some regional titles to vault those two and he doesn't have the luxury of a captive audience like they do.

Agree, and I too am also a huge Carr fan.

In terms of player development I think Larry Kendall of Harrison County is great, but he lacks the game management skills.

How can Jason Hinson not be in this discussion? With what he has dome at Augusta the last 5 yrs he has to be in the top 5. IMO.

I think that is a poor comparison. If you want to judge coaches in similar situations (school size, athletic history, talent) by titles, that makes some sense. That is not the case with Hinson and the others.

 

A district first round game against Mason Co is "a big one" for Augusta. The Panthers winning two district titles is about as big a feat as Mason Co or GRC winning two region titles.

After all, he did step onto the floor at Rupp two years ago to accept the 10th Region Coach of the Year award during the Sweet Sixteen.

Hes took his team to the 10th region tourny last 3 yrs 39th district champs last 2 yrs and region semi finalist last yr with a school with the enrollment of around 100 total kids. Thats a pretty good sample if you ask me. Their isnt an athletic dept around that would want him as their coach. But he remains loyal to Augusta and i applaud him on that.

 

He knows basketball and player development. And the proof is in the puddin at what hes done at Augusta. Just can not see him as not a top 5 coach despite the fact he has no state titles. IMO :thumb:
