Steelers won’t rule out return from Brett Keisel, James Harrison

Featured Replies

The Steelers have parted ways with several veteran players in the last couple of years as they’ve tried to get younger and more athletic, but they aren’t totally closing the door on the return of a couple of elder statesmen.

Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert was asked Monday about bringing defensive endBrett Keisel and linebacker James Harrison back to Pittsburgh for another season. Both players have expressed interest in another spin on the carousel and Colbert said nothing is imminent or impossible on that front.

I have always had a soft spot for James Harrison and his year with the Bengals helped that along but here is hoping the Steelers sign them both back!!!

Love me some James Harrison.

That man is certifiable, though. :lol2:

My question is, if the Steelers have to sign those two guys back they are in trouble on defense, correct?

They have been in trouble on defense for a few years now, IMO.

How do you make that connection? I don't think they'd sign either except for the vet minimum and in a reserve role. Depth at OLB and DE is tenuous unless camp proves otherwise. PFT has them at 6mil under the cap, although it's slightly less than that according to the front office.

If any team has to sign some old, tired vets that they cut in the last couple of years to add to an already questionable defense I think it is an issue.

Neither were cut. James went for what his agent told him were greener pastures and turned down a contract offer by the the Steelers. Keisel's contract expired. And for the record, I listened to the interview recording of Colbert and he also didn't rule out any players on other squads that are released that he thinks would make his best 53.

And in my opinion, I think only Keisel has a shot at returning for depth only. Linebackers that can't play special teams aren't very popular.

Cut, not renewed, greener pastures, blah blah blah; the point is if the Steelers have to bring either of them back they are in trouble and you know it.

Ok. I'm not too worried. I guess if they decide to bring one of them back you can use the old and tired refrain for them at least for a little while longer.

I think the Steelers D should sign all of these old guys. It's not like they are veterans that didn't play many snaps over the past decade. Both of these guys were elite and played a ton of snaps. Signing both only helps by Bengals.

Harrison was released by the Steelers.

I thought I covered that with blah blah blah.
