July 21, 201412 yr Thomas More (and other similar small colleges) simply have football as a way of attracting students who want to play football and otherwise might have been paying huge sums of tuition money to another college. The increase in tuition money collected offsets any expenses at that level. This is true. In some ways it's tougher to play D3 ball than D1. Just look at the size of many d3 recruiting classes. Football is a big enrollment driver, and sometimes the freshman football class can represent 5-10% of the total student population at some of those schools. Usually only about 20% (give or take) will end up playing all 4 years. Most kids (and parents) have no idea what they are getting into when they "sign" to play football at a D3 school. It's not every school, but it is true in the vast majority.
July 21, 201412 yr I'd heard the same thing a few years back. Would love to see NKU with a program, maybe a FBS team with no scholarships to start and then add them later. They seem like a good program for the OVC. That wouldn't be bad at all but they would be FCS not FBS. I know it is to late now, but I always thought NKU could have had a solid DII program. There is no other DII program in the Cincinnati area. They could have done a great majority of their recruiting within a 30 mile radius.
July 21, 201412 yr Yes, meant FBS, starting like Dayton/Morehead and then adding scholarships. Closest D2 schools are KY Wesleyan and Finley? D2 would be a good niche to be in if you could get into the conference than includes UIndy.
July 21, 201412 yr I really wish NKU would get a football team but I'm sure the money is the main reason they don't.
July 21, 201412 yr If they were to get SCHOLARSHIP football (which I think would be awesome), then would they possible not comply with title IX? That would then force them to either drop male sports that already exist or then create women sports. Then you have additional financial problems that would stem from football.
July 21, 201412 yr I don't know why they would spend a lot of money just to get it started where it really needs to go some place else. If you want tuition to go way up just to get your football then go for it.
