I talked to WB Head Coach for about 20 minutes while waiting for HHS buses to arrive. Apparently the bus drivers took the overland route.

Format was half field - Highlands O versus Western Brown D, and vice versa

 

Each O started at the 40 - reset back to 40 after a TD or interception. Each offense ran over 175 plays.

 

I mostly watched HHS offense. But just a few comments about HHS defense. WB had most of their success in the deep middle. HHS rarely had a safety in the middle of the field and WB got a lot of favorable match ups with linebackers playing MTM. Not sure the QB would have the time needed in a real game for those plays to materialize, but WB scored in that manner.

 

Hoge played about 100 plays. He gets bigger each time I see him. I would guess he hit on at least 75% of his passes. By the end of the 7 on 7 it was pitch and catch - score after score. WB may have gotten a bit tired, but HHS really looked sharp at the end. Double digit catches by Venneman, Weyer, and Telek.

You make a good point about using 7s to make evaluations when you point out "not sure the qb would have the time...."

Did 1s play with 1s? Or was everyone rotated in?

When Hoge was QB he was throwing most of the time to Venneman, Weyer, Coughlan, and Telek. The running backs alternated in - Urlage, Watson, and Kendall

 

Hergott was throwing to Cain, Sipple, Miller, New, and Conley

 

The 4 sophomore QB's each got about 7 plays - do not know the younger kids in those rotations.

 

There were occasions when receivers mixed themselves in, but not a rotation as in the last couple of seasons.

 

The defense was shuffling kids in and out the entire time.

I posted yesterday that by the end of the 7v7 HHS was looking very good. I just checked the HUDL video and got some numbers to back up what I thought I saw.

 

The back half of the passing game Beau Hoge was 36/44 with 11 TD's.
