June 16, 201412 yr 1) you seem to be happy with continuing to have our government ran by the same types of decision makers 2) which post did you answer "What Prepares"...are you talking about the "Small Taste" post? You have read way too much into my responses. I simply replied to the narrative of the letter writer. Wal-Mart's growth does not mean we should make decisions about the country in the same way they make decisions about suppliers to use and towns to go into. The entire response in #14 was in response to training.
June 16, 201412 yr Incorrect. I am saying that all decisions made by the POTUS are not based on the right financial move as it's main motive. Nor is EVERY decision made by a CEO...but almost every decision can be mutually beneficial is as LT said if Politics and Favor Buying is left out of it. In your example would it not be more economically advantageous for the US to keep a friend than lose one and thus lose a trading partner for US business. Trust me if there was an economic benefit for the US the President's would have intervened in the atrocities of occurring all across Africa years ago.

Trust me if there was an economic benefit for the US the President's would have intervened in the atrocities of occurring all across Africa years ago. Let me be clear. I'm not saying economics aren't always consciously or subconsciously involved. I am saying that they are not the driver. Protecting the citizens of the US is not an economically-driven decision. Wal-Mart CEO makes every decision with economics as a primary driver (and that's not a bad thing).
June 16, 201412 yr I would also argue that simply having a strong economy in the state one governs does make one a strong business person. Ex: Gov Perry has done a GREAT job in getting companies like Toyota to move to TX. That's great for TX - bad for KY or CA or..... The President can't do that. The "Gov Perry is great for business" is a myth.

The "Gov Perry is great for business" is a myth. Disagree about the myth statement. As governor of course he has Texas well being over other states as is his job. But as president all 50 states would be his responsibility and bring the agenda of job growth nationwide. Now you could argue it's not as feasible on a larger scale , I wouldn't agree but that is a legit argument . But to say it's a myth he is great for business is simply wrong.

June 16, 201412 yr What economic policies has he implemented that will work for the country? Tax incentives and deregulation . Obviously you can't use the exact plan for a state and use it on the entire nation. I personally would trust a leader who showed the ability to do it on a statewide level to figure a plan out on a larger scale over someone with no track record what so ever . I'm not even a Rick Perry fan but you can't argue results . But even if he didn't come up with a plan as president that doesn't erase the fact right now in the position he holds Rick Perry is a job creator. He uses the tools at his disposal and created an atmosphere that was friendly for business. The same ability states like California had to act and chose not to.

The "Gov Perry is great for business" is a myth. Does the president and the agenda that he pursues make this country more attractive or less attractive for foreign investments in this country, including the location of manufacturing facilities? And is that not what Rick Perry has done in Texas? He has identified states that have grown increasingly hostile to businesses and recruited them for relocation to Texas. A president should be thinking in the same strategic terms instead of pursuing an agenda that disregards the financial impact on the private sector.

It's not hard to get jobs to the state when you already have zero income tax and you give huge incentives to the company. I also don't put much into "well other states could but don't...." What tells us that Gov Perry (who once yanked on my brother's beard ) can make the US economy grow? Shouldn't we ask this question? How does he plan to get jobs to the country or simply get more people back to work at existing businesses?

Gov Perry deserves credit for figuring out how to position TX. My simple point is that tells us nothing about his ability to make the other 49 states add jobs.
June 23, 201412 yr Wal-Marts response to NY Times editorial: Yahoo! Pretty funny response. Pretty poor reporting but hey, it's the NY Times, what do you expect these days?

I think the initiative and vision required to pursue them is part of the make up that makes a good leader. I don't know much about Perry but those are traits I would want in a president.
