Very good stroke, and should be expected to start for the Patriots next season. Given his skill set, I think he's a pretty valuable addition, especially given that he can play off of Justice and Hall as a shooter that the defense can't afford to leave. I'd imagine he'll get a few touches when Cam drives and collapses the defense or Hall kicks out of the post and into the corner.

Only D Cornett I know of is Dalton from Hazard. Justin is the Cornett from Cordia,, added with Austin Combs and Issac Caudill from Letcher.

Yeah Justin is the only Cornett on Cordias roster from last year. Listed as a forward.

I think he started for Cordia when I saw them in the Republic Bank Classic against NCC, but I don't really remember him playing a ton and would be surprised if he started at the end of the season once they got all of their kids eligible. Not saying he's a bad player, or that he won't be able to help Knott, just that he's probably going to be a guy coming off the bench to spell Hall, Christon, and company. I'd actually be kind of surprised if he started over Chance Cornett, a returning senior who started last season (at least immediately).

 

Last season, Justin was listed as playing in 4 of the final 5 games that Cordia played, but combined in those games for no points and three rebounds (but it could be that he was hurt or didn't play a lot of minutes with all the kids that they had at that point).

 

He's kind of an undersized post player who looks like he'd be strong enough, but his height means he has to rely on outworking you. Remember him taking a shot or two from the short corner, but can't really remember what kind of shooter he was. Keep in mind, I saw him play against NCC, so maybe those weren't the best bigs to judge him against. He'll probably come off the bench and contribute in ways other than scoring. If nothing else, he'll give them depth, which is still a really big deal, especially for a smaller mountain school. Not saying that he won't help or that he'll never see the floor, just that I've not really seen enough of him yet to think he's the kind of kid to make the same kind of impact as Combs.

I think Knott has a cake walk to the state tournament. Only other way they have any challengers is if PCC, Hazard and Cordia all load up on transfers.

I've also heard that Knott picked up a transfer from East Ridge. A kid named Miller? Wireman you have any info?

Knott beat Johnson Central 62-33. Then beat a good gritty Tug Valley team 46-42. Knott was missing four players today. Clay Nickles, Chance Cornett, Justin Cornett, and Dalton Cornett did not play.

 

With regard to other questions, Justin Cornett transferred to Knott to take advantage of duel enrollment classes that are offered at Knott that are not available at Cordia. Austin Cornett has played quite well this summer and the Joker has described the situation very well. Shooters like Cam and an inside player like Evan open up the floor for shooters like Shrum, Austin, and Dalton. Forget the zones, triangle and chasers of past seasons. The game plan is going to change, it has to. One more note, Austin Combs has a cousin who also will be attending Knott this season as a freshman. His name is Isaac Caudill, and he is about 6-2. He is very slender but is athletic and shoots the 3 pretty good. He will definitely get better as the season progresses. He will play a great deal, even on the varsity, as a freshman.

Most impressive physical specimens I have seen this summer is Wesley Christian School in Allen. They run probably 6'6, 6,7, and 6,8 across the front line. Also have a guard made like a fullback who shoots the three real well. They sure brought out the intensity in Knott.

Two easy wins today against Belfry and Shelby Valley. Newsome is injured and looked very uncomfortable on the floor. Knott won both games by about 30 points but they only played the starters about 1/2 the game against Belfry. The starters played almost all the game against Shelby Valley.

One of the really satisfying things about the wins was the quickness with which Knott got the ball down the court. Once again, Knott was missing Chance Cornett, Dalton Cornett, Justin Cornett, and Clay Nickles. Scary how impressive Knott has been.

BB had better put competition the schedule so they can learn to deal with strength and quickness out of the 11th, 6th, and 7th regions.

I think Knott is a legit state title contender.
