In Marvin Lewis' case it is G

To talk down to as many people as possible as to make it seem every fan etc are idiots and only he knows everything.

Umpires are to nkuclubbaseball19 as Marvin Lewis is to Hellbird :loll:…

My answer would be F contingent upon the Coach and his/her team. I'd add speak to rally the public (I) and speak to motivate the kids (J) minus any lies. There are plenty of coaches who accomplish a&b minus lies and partial truths.

I agree.

I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.

But, I'll try for the sake of conversation: I always think of coach speak as a coach saying something, while saying nothing. Like, "we are just going to try to compete and play to the best of our ability", or "winning is always our goal". It's a way of saying we are doing our best without being boastful, derogatory, or inflammatory.

See any Greg Popovich or Bill Bilichick interview

We live in a Double Standard Society: If a coach at a school that is expected to win or a Traditional makes a statement that is in appropriate it is viewed very much different, than if a coach from a school that is trying to build a winner makes a statement. My new high school coach back in the mid 90's asked the opposing coach of a school that had just won two titles back to back to speak to our team after a 50+ butt kicking. While not very popular with parents/admin it turned our program into a WINNER!!!. That coach said the same things our coach had been saying. Weight-Room, Off season, and preparation. Sometimes the public does not need to enter the inner circle of trust, because they have not paid the price of what the players or coaches have paid.

G: My highschool coach told us to believe nothing that he ever said in the paper. I think it is simply filler that they use because they have to talk to the media. You are never going to get anything close to an accurate quote IMO.

C, D, and E

Many coaches' will simply use cliche after cliche to describe things in a general way. Many coaches are wary of giving others "bulletin board" material, which is what will happen if you say what you really want to say.

Man I never really come into the football forum but today I do and I see this.

Don't know how to take it.
