The college coaches think they will develop those players that have the measurables. You cannot develop a kid who does not have the measurables, so to speak.

 

Kids with measurables, but not the skill , to me, raises a red flag on coachability.

 

This business is crazy. Offer a kid with skill but not, measurables is a considered a job risk, but offering someone with talent, but, obvious character deficiencies isn't a problem. A certain former Dixie QB comes to mind as an example.

Or they have not been coached well, all coaches feel like they can fix the coaching part.

 

There are tons of skilled lineman say, six foot and under, but they do not have the measurables and there is no way they are going to get offers.

I'm a firm believer that your measurable #'s are what opens doors for recruiting. Talent and character come afterward, along with academics being last.

I guess the ability to gain muscle mass without losing mobility is not as important on the defensive side of the ball?

I think its pretty clear that you would be served looking at lower levels of football if you have no offer by now. That being said, I see 4 and 5 star kids at camps, with multiple offers, that have all the measurables, but can't perform on the field to save their lives. ,

Off the top of my head I know at least 2 DL who were taken in the first few rounds of the draft under 6'3".

Watching the link provided then watching the highlights of the kids mentioned not even close to being on the same level, IMO.

He is an offensive guard Mike Horton - Football Recruiting - Player Profiles - ESPN. The obvious difference you speak of has nothing to do with it. He finishes his blocks very well.

someone already said it but it sounds like these guys may not be top of the list guys. Coaches are most likely waiting to see what shakes out with other guys before deciding to go hard after the tier 2 guys. That may not happen until next spring.

Olmstead who is 6'4 325 pounds has visited a bunch of D1 schools including UK, WKU, UC, Purdue and I think also some MAC schools.
