Elite NKy Linemen getting shut out on the recruiting trail

Featured Replies

3 elite NKy offensive linemen are getting shut out on the recruiting trail. It is my understanding that Murrer of Cov Cath, Ross of Ryle and Olmstead of SK have a grand total of 0 offers between them. Having seen all three in person, all of them to me have the size and lateral movement to be good candidates for play on the next level. What is holding these kids back from getting offers at any level?

I wouldn't be shy about seeking feedback from coaches at camps/visits. Nothing wrong with asking where the players rank on their 'list'. Some schools may not have a need at the position.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If they are D1 caliber athletes, they will get offers so long as all of the measurements come up legit.

It appears Murrer has 2 offers according to this... Sam Murrer

Don't get discouraged...yet. June is the time of year kids will be evaluated in-person by college coaches at camps. Only those with outstanding 'measureables' plus great Jr year film (for OL--6'5+, 280-ish or better) or those marginal kids (6'4 basically) who went to camps and stood out as rising Juniors in front of college coaches would likely be receiving offers before June on-campus camps start.

I know it's been beaten down a little on this board recently, but this is the EXACT example of the importance of going to college 1-day camps (NOT the spring 'showcases' put on by non-college organizations -- b/c there can be no D1/1AA college coaches there to evaluate them). If they're marginal size-wise, but prove to the coaches in person they have GREAT (not just good) feet and technique, someone will offer them.

These coaches' careers are on the line if they go to bat to the head coach to recommend Billy Joe at XYZ County HS who is 6'3 when the head coach wants his OL 6'5 or taller (meaning, they can put on more mass without affecting their ability to move well). So, if they INVITE a marginal kid to their camp, they're often wanting the kid to perform in front of the head coach or coordinator so HE can approve, thus taking some of the pressure off the position coach.

Be ready then for kids who are marginal to the coaches, that--even after getting 'seen' by the coaches and having a good camp--that the 'offer' is as a preferred walk-on.

I think its pretty clear that you would be served looking at lower levels of football if you have no offer by now. That being said, I see 4 and 5 star kids at camps, with multiple offers, that have all the measurables, but can't perform on the field to save their lives. ,

Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Those coaches who have offered them and the services that ranked them 4 or 5 stars obviously see something.

How big are they?

6' 4" - 6' 5" 280 - 320 lbs

Is Ross that tall?

Lower end of that range I believe.

I have zero clue what level these boys can play so I'm not commenting on them specifically.

However, with no offers yet I would say that if they are considered to be borderline D1 schools may be waiting to see who they can get/offer that they think is better. These guys could be tier 2 or tier 3 guys for teams. The offer may come but it also may be late.

The CCH boy could do a lot worse than having an offer from Wofford. Great school. Great football. I'd say he is not being "shut out."

The college coaches think they will develop those players that have the measurables. You cannot develop a kid who does not have the measurables, so to speak.

According to this, he is 6'2" Ryan Ross's Football Recruiting Profile

That is what I was thinking, I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago. You will be hard pressed to find a D1 lineman under 6'3" unless they have great physical talent.

IMO, Ross is a lot better than Sowards and he got a a ride.

Bradley Way is now at Wofford and starting. Played at Covington Catholic. I'd guess he was 6'3 maybe 6'4.Several D1 coaches told Coach Wirth that if Bradley was an inch or two taller....

6'2 is going to be a factor.
