Famous people still support Obama

Featured Replies

You should. Very open-minded group of people that are very intelligent. I think they would sway your opinion on a couple issues. Obama has been on there.

So open minded that I think their brains have fallen out. Like I side in my edit of my post, I feel good that for the most part my views contradict that messed up group.

Just because someone is famous does not mean they are intelligent.

To quote Kid Rock, "We (Hollywood) need to realize that if it wasn't for our singing ability, looks or whatever, most of us would work jobs with our names on our shirts so we need to just shut up about politics"

That is in no offense to those who work jobs with their names on their shirts, but you get his point.

So, you respect what Kid Rock says? :D

Yes it does mean they are intelligent. Tell me, then, why so many people look up to them. Honestly, I wish we had more of these types of people running for politics. Look at what it has done with Obama - great leader, can reach the masses and a top notch communicator.

If we had more people from Hollywood leading our country, I would say that they would work together in much better fashion and would do a great job handling our foreign affairs. The Republican party continues to send elderly white males to run and block any new idea coming up - the Democrats offer new, fresh ideas.

So, you respect what Kid Rock says? :D

Generally no but he made me crack up with that quote because ultimately, he made fun of himself too which is unusually humbling for him or the Hollywood crew as a whole.

A lot of people look up to Miley Cyrus, Kanye West and Kim K. You REALLY want those idiots running the country. If your answer is yes, I don't know what to say.

I think we have already talked about people being denied their rights in other threads. So, I'm going to stick to the topic in this thread.

This is one that Republicans have a tough time answering. It's a zinger. Doesn't the opinion of someone like LeBron James, Bruce Springsteen, Whoopi Goldberg, or Oprah Winfrey mean something to you?

4 people I wouldn't pee on if they were on fire. :lol2:

I think in general, we all respect what people say that we can relate to, have an interest in and doesn't offend us, regardless of what celebrity or non celebrity is delivering the message. I personally find some celebrities to be well informed and actively involved and I do listen to hear what they say, the same as I do with "common" folk. I also find some to be as remarkably uninformed as many "common" folk are and disregard their messages as well. What I will do no matter what, is respect the right that ignorant or brilliant, whether I agree or not, celebrity or "common", we all have the freedom to express our opinions.

Used to be able to reach the masses, most of the country has awaken since 2008.

I will agree with you that he is a top notch communicator but I am not sure that characteristic makes someone a great leader. Louisville's former mayor was an amazing public speaker. You would hear him talk and just want to go out clean trash off the street he inspired you so much. However, even Democrats today admit that he left the city in not the greatest condition. The Commonwealth Auditor of Public Accounts released her findings on the city shortly before left office and the report almost had blood dripping off of it she so many material weaknesses and significant deficiencies in the operations of City of Louisville Government. And she is in the SAME political party as he is, you would think Crit would have softened her report a little but it was that bad.

Our current mayor while running for the Mayor's Office did everything possible to distance himself from the former mayor despite being in the same party. This current mayor also has to deal with the horrible agreement the former mayor made with UofL over the stadium due to the financial strain it could put the city in. I couldn't tell you how many times the current mayor has had to remind the media that he wasn't mayor when the contract was signed, he just has to live with it. I have been very impressed with our current mayor, he is much better than our former but when it comes to public speaking, the former mayor is 100x better. Hence my view that just because you are a great public speaker does not make you a great leader necessarily.

What I will do no matter what, is respect the right that ignorant or brilliant, whether I agree or not, celebrity or "common", we all have the freedom to express our opinions.

I am not disagreeing with this. I am just saying just because someone can fill up a stadium, sell millions of movie tickets or sell millions of magazines his/her picture is displayed in no way shape or form means I am going to give their opinion any more weight that a police officer, a teacher, a construction worker, etc.. I find the assertion that the fact that Hollywood still supports the president must mean he is doing a good job so absurd it is humorous.

I am one that doesn't care about a popular person's opinion on politics and that includes entertainers, athletes, Generals, former Presidents, etc. I do respect them for what they do, but they are more than likely no more informed than most of us on the politics in general. They may be more informed on specific issues, but not the totality, except maybe former Presidents, who all seem to mellow considerably and get along with both parties once they are out of office and they will support their party's candidate, just a given.

I look at these persons as what they are outstanding at what they do or they would not be in the limelight , as they are. Just because I may not like one of them does not mean they are good at what they do.

With that being said, sadly, they are influential because of their so called "popularity" and therefore, will be asked to endorse candidates. I would do it also if I were running for office. Remember these are politicians trying to get enough votes to win and will pretty much do anything to do so.

I like Ted Nugent as an entertainer, but personally think he is out of mind, otherwise. However, I still like his stuff. I also like Barbra Streisand as a performer, but think she is out of her mind, also. I would pay to see both perform, just won't pay any credence to their political views.

You honestly think they would be worse than the Republican leadership that is the reason we're in this mess?

I can't believe you think that, but your choice. We are not in this mess because of Republicans only, the Democrats have played their part, also. That type of thinking IMO where we blame one party is why we are where we are.

Gone are the days of reaching across the aisle. I will be the first to tell you that I do not like either of Kentucky US Senators, however, I respect their position and would treat them with dignity in their presence and around others and even buy them a brew at a local establishment and chat with them. Sadly, those days are gone when many would do that.

He is playing you.

How? It is the Republicans that have had major control of at least one house of congress since 2000.
