5A Super Class

Featured Replies

Someone asked today what the classes would look like if they were all done based on competitive level so I gave my new 4a a shot using a 5 year average rating from calpreps. Districts 3/4 and 5/6 could have been split any way you want so I assigned them kind of randomly so you all could argue some. The matchups this would create would be awesome/competitive and the playoffs would be a war. top 4 teams get in like now.

In the playoffs 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 all play each other then region 1-2 and 3-4 play. No special rotating.

2 year cycle then we draw it up again!

The thread should actually be 5A super class.

Interesting I imagined Owensboro Catholic and Ft. Campbell would have made the list since Beechwood is on there...but I guess they are more related to tradition in my mind over actual perfromance the past 5 years. Good work...would be entertaining to watch for sure!

The major drawback of a class like this is punishing small schools for being good. Look at Beechwood in this class. Lets say they have a great year and finish 2nd in their district. They would play these teams 5 weeks in a row to win a title if the 5 year average held.

Congrats Beechwood for doing such a great job with your little school, now go play the 27 Yankees.

^True. Maybe they could have a 5A Super Class - All A Championship mid season. :D

To help out the parity situation, but, still maintain schools fairly equal in size. Here's what I'd propose: Take the top ranked 1a schools based on some sort of combined 4 or 5 year performance standard and move the top 8 teams to 2a, while moving the 8 lowest ranked 2a teams down to 1a. Then do the same for 3a/4a, moving the top 8 3a teams up to 4a and the lowest 8 4a teams to 3a. Then do the same for 5a/6a. You could call the 1a class, 1a div 1 and call the 2a class, 1a div 2, etc. you could then play all your Div 1 state championships on Friday and all the Div 2 championships on sat.

Interesting take on the AAU basketball format. I could learn to like this one. It would make for some interesting games. My question would be, not what you do with BW or NC, but what about a program like Ryle that was near the top of 6A with Elliot and Hempfel but now towards the bottom third. Talent says D2 but the size could be D1.

Missing a lot of good teams on that list, that even have beaten those teams in recent years.
