I see your point but they are a county school and we see too many big schools in NKY play 2A and 3A teams in the regular season. You don't have to go out and schedule all the big dogs but come on, for years people have avoided the cream of the crop in NKY (Highlands to play some other team that is not very good.) I will give Campbell Co credit for putting them on the schedule last year and Ryle credit for playing them all those years before last year. I am just saying that it would be a good measuring stick and in a non-district game it couldn't hurt. Plus with all the rambling that UKfan does about how great SK is why don't they step up and play a Scott Co or Highlands? Also Cooper is 1 year removed from the state title game in which they played about as close to BG as anyone has. I don't think 1 game is going to hurt and I agree according to the schedule Scott Co played some weak teams but all were either 5A or 6A. All I am saying is that it would not hurt any of these programs to play some Lexington area schools

To defend Uk#1fan, SK did better than play Highlands last year, they played the team that beat Highlands in the state championship game.....and won.

 

So playing Highlands, as I've said a thousand times, does not garuntee you bettering your team. If that were the case then everyone would schedule Highlands. As long as you aren't scheduling teams like Grant Co. every single week then you are doing just fine. Cooper didn't scehdule Highlands or Scott Co. 2 years ago and they did just fine. They went further in the playoffs than everyone else in NKY that year except for Highlands and NCC.

Strength of schedule only helps you if you beat those teams. Losing means nothing when it comes to strength of schedule.

To be honest I'm not really sure where they are at for this upcoming season.

 

A couple of big question marks they had last year was the line play and the QB position. Well their line was very young last year and it showed. The QB position was a huge surprise and was the best passing game the teams ever had. Now this year they have to find a QB again just like last year.

 

Last years team has an advantage when it came to the skill positions. They had 2 WR's that have played and started for 3 yrs and a RB who been a starter at that position for at least 2 as FB and RB.

 

This year they have a very good RB who started also last year and if they go with a blocking FB like 2 years ago I think they will be fine. Their line was young last year but several very good underclass men who started on the line last yr will be returning this year.

 

As far as how they will do this year I think they have a good shot to finish possibly 2nd in district but if they get good play from QB position may have a shot at fighting for district title.

Should be an interesting year. I have to hand it to Coach Borchers, I hear he is implementing a platoon system at Cooper. I see them really improving over the next few years once his system is implemented.
