Some people may not like what I'm going to say, but I'm going to say it anyway...

 

I am ALWAYS skeptical of these things when they involve athletes. Too many money-hungry people in the world. You're always innocent until proven guilty, but I feel in cases like these (rape, sexual assault) many people jump to conclusions and assume guilt.

 

I completely agree but it does go both ways, how many athletes do BUY themselves out of messes like this. Best thing is to wait for everything to come out and not jump to conclusions either way.

At first glance it seems like the frequency could be explained away by saying that the athelets are victims as women could be falsifying accusations in an attempt to get a payday, however, the more I think about it, it doesn't seem like you hear about near as many sexual assualt claims with actors or musicians who could be targets for the same reasons.

 

Most Athletes: Immature young kids with too much money, too little discipline outside of their sport, who are on their own most of the time.

 

Most Famous Actors/Musicians: Took longer to climb to the top, have many more agents, assistants, full time handlers, and I would argue more intellectual.

 

Result: Athletes are much easier prey.

Agreed. Especially if reported immediately.

 

I'll disagree with that. Some sexual assaults by their very nature are traumatic and the process of reporting is something that essentially means that a victim has to "relive" the entire scenario all over again.

 

I think what you and PP92 are saying is that when a sexual assault has occurred and the victim does report immediately, then it's going to be easier to prove, which I agree with.

 

Where I'll disagree is my saying that there are likely a very high percentage of legitimate sexual assaults that go unreported because of the state that it leaves the victim in.

 

 

All that said, I do understand your sentiment of erring on the side of caution until proof comes out, because false claims of "sexual assault" can and do occur for various reasons (i.e., the fame of the other party, extortion, feelings of retribution, etc.).

 

 

Not trying to attack you and PP92's posts, just saying that I reason why more legitimate sexual assaults aren't immediately reported while more fictitious claims of such are immediately reported. Again, that's just a generalization and has no bearing on the facts and circumstances of an individual case, just my opinion that a "gold digger with a false claim" would be more likely to report immediately while someone who was an actual victim could repress the memory for a substantial amount of time.

 

I think an example of this would be the girl at Notre Dame who alleged that a member of the football team raped her before she eventually committed suicide.

Obviously, there's no clear-cut methodology to determine the accuracy of someone's claims, especially when someone who has the fame and fortune of a professional athlete is involved.
