Dead coyotes everywhere

Featured Replies

Shoots a very flat trajectory I take it?

Yes. It's a boss.

I have 3 that run through my yard all the time. Scares me that my dogs are going to be out there when they are at some point. I've twice ran up to get a gun and they were gone by the time I get back.
Shotgun with 00buck = dead songdog.

I see them, I hear them, they leave me alone...I leave them alone. Wolves were their primary predator.

My fave.

Is it considered an intermediate round like .223 or more of a full power round like .308 or .30-06?

It's just a 22 caliber round hopped up on gun powder steroids is the best way I can explain it. Lots of powder pushing this thing. Enough juice to bring down whitetail deer here in KY, though personally I think it's a might small for that but some people use it, buddy at work does. Most charts you see will list it as a varmint round.

I apologize Bert for not responding earlier. It's more like the .223. Ballistics are similar. You can load the .22-250 a little hotter. Very flat, but like anything else, occasionally the caliber is finicky. I have an off the shelf Rem 700 that just happened to lay them in tight right out of the box. Of course, my scope cost more than the gun.:sssh:

Heard a biologist say once that if you see predators like coyotes, bobcats, ect..there are probably too many. Other then humans and the occasional Buick they have no natural predators in ky.

The 22-250 is an awesome population control tool.

So would the .22-250 probably be limited to deer ie don't try Elk and certainly not Moose with it?

Yes I realize with proper bullet placement, could take a Moose down with 30-30 or even .357 Mag but I think many would agree for such large game, don't hold back and go with a full powered 30-06, .308 etc. for a more sure and more humane kill.

While a 22-250 would work for whitetail I don't think I would use it.

For moose I'm not sure I wouldn't go bigger than 30-06.

Sometimes they get rousted out of their day place and have to relocate during the day and may be seen. That doesn't biologically mean the area is overpopulated...except maybe by humans.

No way I'd hunt elk or moose with a 22-250. It may even be illegal to do so, but since I haven't hunted in ages that I don't know. here is a chart comparison. This one doesn't have 22-250 on it, but as doc said similar to the .223. The 223 doesn't come anywhere close to being rated for moose.
