I don't remember how the next batter went. I don't think another run scored in the inning though.

I've always been taught for a SB to occur, 2 of the following 3 things must occur.

 

1. Pitcher in stretch

2. Holding him on

3. Throw by catcher

 

Now that is just what I was told years ago and I've always remembered it. Not sure if that is actually a good barometer or not.

Awarding a stolen base is somewhat subjective. Typically, defensive indifference is only scored late in a game when the team stealing the base is losing by a lot. But it looks to me like those 3 points are a decent guide, but it doesn't cover every situation. Like it was mentioned, a runner on second is often not directly held on. And if a pitcher makes a mistake and goes from the wind up, and the runner gets a huge jump with no throw, I think the runner still gets awarded a stolen base.

Here' show OBR (Official Baseball Rules) says to determine what constitutes indifference.

For instance, if the catcher doesn't look the runner back to third, and lollypops one back out to the pitcher, and the runner breaks on the throw and gets in before the pitcher can catch the ball and throw it back to the catcher...how is that scored?

I'd lean towards a SB.
