What does Bourbon County need to do to improve in 2014? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Bourbon has some mighty big holes to fill, but I still see them as the team to beat in their region. It's just the delta between them, Mason County, Russell, Garrard, and Estill will close drastically.

 

Gone are some of the best players in 3A.

 

They lose IMHO the best or a close 2nd best QB in 3A in Pope, the best WR in 3A in Johnson, and one of the best defensive players in Mitchell while also suffering some blows on the lines. They also lose their 2nd best defensive player in Hilander.

 

What they do return though is possibly the best player in 3A in 2014 in the RB Holman if he recovers from his injury.

 

Bourbon has reached the Semi's the past two years and have enough talent to do it again, but it will begin and end with their ability to piece together a quality offensive and defensive line and find those other playmakers at the skill positions so Holman can do his thing.

Good recap, ATL. I think Bourbon will pull back to the pack just a bit this season, but I still think they are the Region III favorite.

That's a good point. System comfortability could override loss of certain players. Again, Bourbon will be very good again in 2014.

OFFENSE

 

The glaring loss for me will be at QB, Trevor Lucky was a star in the middle school ranks and will be a sophomore but is he ready? The Colonels will be fine in the backfield with Brent Holman and Marquaze Hill. Jonathan Duncan showed he is the future at the RB position for the Colonels. At WR Terrell Roberts will be the Colonels main threat. Kyler Hodges and Dalton Turner who could also be the Colonels QB have also shown flashes of being capable to hold their own. DO NOT FORGET TE Tyler Ishmael who isn't scared to put his head down to pick up extra yardage. Colton Gibson will anchor the Colonels OL, and Jorge Mendez proved to be a key cog despite being just a sophomore last season. Clayton & Hanson Cox are two young men I look forward to seeing how they progressed as well as Steven Stinnett.

 

DEFENSE

 

DL is a place the Colonels have holes, Jorge Mendez also proved he was more then capable and strong enough to get into the backfield despite his youth. The young man to watch who could become a star at DE is DeQuantae Allen. Tyler Ishmael and Shelby Jackson will give the Colonels a nice LB duo, throw in Holman and the hole of Dakota Mitchell's departure is filled as best as it can be. A young face to remember at LB is Chandler Thomas. Terrell Roberts will lock down one of the starting CB spots and if I was a betting man Marquaze Hill will play on the other side. Shelby Jackson and Dalton Turner will also see time at DB.

 

SCHEDULE
