Southwestern 66 Lincoln County 60 (12th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

Southwestern is led by Justin Edwards and advances to the 12th Region Finals to be played tomorrow night.

Lincoln finishes 26-6

Conway had 18

Conley had 15

Taylor had 11

Cornelius had 10

Edwards had 29

Gaskin had 12

Don't sleep on the Warriors, I think they may surprise some folks against Wayne.

Well shoot, I've been saying all year that Southwestern was being overlooked or downplayed by everyone else in the region (except me). I could not understand why nobody would give them the respect they deserve. They have an excellent point guard, a big, strong inside man and a DI recruit who can play in or out plus other talent.

Wayne County has beaten them three times, but every time Wayne has had to bring their best. We'll see if they can do it one more time.

Very impressed with Southwestern. I had seen them in the McCreary tournament and they looked good, but the last two nights they have looked great. Edwards completely dominated the game tonight and Gaskin (sp?) was a man down low. I'm still a little skeptical of their outside shooting, but by the same token I believe they have a huge advantage on the blocks against Wayne. Should be a great game.

Is Edwards a D1 recruit? I've asked on here before if he was getting any interest from colleges.

SW could've won this game much more easily than they did. Isaacs is a skilled ball handler and very quick. Gaskin is a hulk, at least in the 12th. And Edwards is unguardable (in the 12th) when he gets the ball in the lane. The problem I've seen is that SW lets some of the other kids do way too much - both ball handling and shooting. That's not meant to be a knock on those younger players as they are very good - but they are 8th graders and freshmen. This team needs to run as a three man show with the others acting as role players. There will be 5 minute spurts when you'd never know who their best offensive player is as they don't consistently look for Edwards. They could learn a thing or two from Wayne in that regard.

In a nutshell, I feel they should be able to beat Wayne. However, for the reasons cited above, I think Wayne beats them yet again.

I couldn't agree more. Edwards, Gaskin, Isaacs and get out of the way. Those younger kids are good, but they sometimes tried to do too much.

LINCOLN had no answer for Edwards . I love that kids game. Not super athletic but just plays ball. Doesn't force things, plays at his pace, can best you inside and out, and plays hard. Kid is a leader and great teammate. Looked like to me SW had Taylor frustrated for a lot of the game. Didn't get in the lane as much as he usually does. Conway had a bunch of shots rim out and didn't have a really good shooting night. Still ended up with 18 tho. I thought Lincoln got a big lift from the Cornelius kid. Played a very solid game battling inside. Gaskin from SW is a load underneath as is Edwards

SW was a match up problem for Lincoln. SW guards did a nice job on Taylor and he didnt control the game. Thought there were some tough calls both ways in this game also.
