Georgetown Golf Courses

I just thought of another place I always enjoy playing, except it is surrounded by houses...Griffin Gate.

A fun course, but I've rattled a townhouse or two.

Haha. I have played that with No. 2 mini-Doomer who drives the ball 350+ yards, but not always in the intended direction. I'm always concerned I will need my insurance agent with me.

Griffin Gate and Devou Park (northern KY) are two courses that I don't like, as a rule, but both are good practice for your iron / wedge play. They can be fun with a good group and some fun games, but as for pure GOLF, I'll pass on both.

Just curious....what do you mean pure GOLF? I am fairly long off the tee, so Griffin Gate is a fairly short course for me which then puts a premium on good iron play. But it is still fun for me, and I can play with people who aren't long off the tee. I used to enjoy Widow's Watch (Golf Club of the Bluegrass) when I lived in Lexington, and I always played the tips which put the course at over 7,200 yards, but no one would play it with me.

I don't hit any / many drivers at Griffin Gate (or Devou), so it is just a different style of play. I hit a lot of hybrids and 3-woods off the tee, but like I said, it is a great iron / wedge course, and who amongst us doesn't need to work on those. I'm a decent player (6.7), but not terribly long off the tee; that said, I (almost) never hit a driver on a par 4 under 400 yards, I choose to play safely and make sure I can attack from the fairway versus the extra 30-50 yards the driver could give me.

Kearney Hills followed by Houston Oaks.

Cherry Blossom was nice but last time we played, it was a 5 hour+ round. Called pro shop to complain, when on 11 tee, and the guy was indifferent. No ranger, nothing. Terrible. We could see group in front was a hole and a half behind. Won't be back.

I played there this past fall. It was in the best shape I've ever seen it.

I didn't pay for my round (thanks to a gift certificate I won there in a scramble in June), but the guys I played with said it cost them $69. A little much in my opinion.

I would agree $69.00 is too much. My son went on-line and paid the fees and I am thinking it was more like $35 each.

$69 for Griffin Gate is a LOT much, if you ask me. Glad to hear it was in shape, that always helps.
