Mr.Network Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 A question was asked in another thread about whether a team had won the 12th Region. Here is a history of the 12th Region champions, according to my notes:
Mr.Network Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 For those that may not know, Moreland and Highland were both schools in Lincoln County.
Jumper_Dad Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Good Stuff! I was at EKU when Somerset went last in 85. One and done, played some team from out west that had some hot shot Junior guard and got spanked. I remember eating Dominos pizza in the car on the way to Rupp from EKU as we rushed up to watch that game. Somerset, like many others had no answer for the boy wonder Rex!
Jumper_Dad Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Does Wayne get credit for Monticello's now that they have merged?
Ole Kentuckian Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 It appears that from the way that Mr. Network has broken down his totals that each school receives credit only for those regional titles won by that high school. If the school merges or splits, then they basically start all over (except in Pulaski County's case where they get to keep what they had prior to Southwestern splitting off, unlike South & North Laurel after they were created from Laurel County. On the other hand, if you're just totaling regional titles won by schools from a particular county, then yes, whatever Monticello won would be included as part of titles won by schools from Wayne County, just as what Somerset, Pulaski County, etc. won would be counted into Pulaski County's totals.
Jumper_Dad Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Yeah I understood that I was just joking, hence the smiley!
Mr.Network Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Good Stuff! I was at EKU when Somerset went last in 85. I remember eating Dominos pizza in the car on the way to Rupp from EKU as we rushed up to watch that game. Somerset, like many others had no answer for the boy wonder Rex! I remember the 1985 tournament at Danville High School.
Jumper_Dad Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Left is by school, right is by entire county (Boyle and Danville combined for Boyle)
Mr.Network Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 It was pointed out to me that I have somewhat reversed McCreary Central and McCreary County high school. It is McCreary County that has 3 regional titles. They consolidated with Pine Knot in 1978 to form McCreary Central High School. As McCreary Central, they won their lone title in 1983. And, I remember that team very well and them winning the Region at Lincoln County that year. Great basketball team.
Mr.Network Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Also, the 1930 title for Moreland is actually in the 5th Region but I keep it listed with my 12th Region info. At that time, there were only 6 regions.
The Professor Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Doesn't Monticello have the most 12th region championships of any school?
The Professor Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Doesn't Monticello have the most 12th region championships of any school? OK. I just noticed that they are tied with Wayne County with 9 each.
ADopted ADmiral Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 For those that may not know, Moreland and Highland were both schools in Lincoln County. And the Moreland gym still exist...I've played a few pick up games on that floor...:thumb:
Jumper_Dad Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Would have never guessed that Somerset was third on that list and only 1 back of the leaders. Of course there hasn't been one in FOREVER! I think Somerset may have been State Runner up the first state playoff, maybe the first two. That was our high water mark in basketball!
