Shelby has size and very athletic. IMO SK exits the first round. They struggle against good teams. They can beat the small class A and AA schools but when they play schools around the same size they struggle. They are the largest school in the 8th region!

I think you're misinformed about BB. We don't have 'classes' in KY. All schools are the same, regardless of size. We don't need to have that discussion again. The reality for SK is that they struggle against basketball teams that are more physical and aggressive than they are. With the exception of #25 (who should touch the ball every possession), they are a team of jump shooters. If you play them physically and deny Morrison, you have a chance to win. However, if they get hot and you are a half step slow, they will torch you. The style of play makes all the difference for these Pioneers.

 

GC beat them because they attacked the rim and SK couldn't stop the dribble drive in man and was late switching to a zone. They also played Morrison very physically and denied him the ball.

That's true, but, what headedforhome is doing is using football class size to use as the guide for the size of the school in comparison to SK, which a lot of people do and which helps people who may not be familiar with the schools, gives a little reference point. I get his point.

Intriguing storylines...

 

Grant County is as improved a team from December to February as I've seen in a long while. The Braves will not concede anything to pre-season favorite Collins....

 

Not sure I'd like to play Collins right after their stumble in the District 30 final, though....

 

Defending champ South Oldham is a very dangerous team, and the way they shoot the ball, they will never be far out of any game. As always, the Dragons have a ton of players who can flat-out shoot the ball.

 

Owen County has one of the top players in the tournament, and Sawyer Williams may be able to put the Rebels on his shoulders and carry them far...but the guard play will likely determine how far the Rebels go.

 

Shelby County is far better than their 16-14 record suggests. I've seen them a few times, and they have the ability to run over people. They are fast, aggressive, and have some muscle to battle inside. Coach Couch tested them early against a brutal schedule and it's paying off...

 

Simon Kenton is too talented to come into this tournament with the record they have, but they have battled some awfully good teams. Strange stat: Since SK joined the 8th region, the Pioneers are an incredible 65-7 (.903) against 32nd district opponents, but just 18-20 (.474) against the rest of the 8th region...

 

Oldham County is indeed hot right now, having won 12 of their last 13 (including wins over South Oldham, Simon Kenton, Shelby County, and Owen County during that stretch.) The Colonels lost their leading scorer, but it seems that the team is more cohesive now and is playing with more focus.

 

Henry County....the Wildcats have their first 20 win team since Jason Holland's last squad in 2008-9 went 22-9. Enoch Welch has the Wildcats playing well, and they'll look to advance on their own hardwood. The Wildcats are doing it with defense; in 30 games, only five opponents have reached 60 points, and half failed to reach 50. Remember, just a couple of years ago, the Wildcats nearly pulled off what would have been a big upset over Oldham County in the semi-finals, losing by just 2....

 

This is going to be a REALLY FUN tournament!!
