Vertical Leap

Featured Replies

I do weight train yeah. The main thing I've been trying to figure out is what I could do 2-3 times a week to improve my vertical while also being able to work out the other areas like normal (arms, chest, etc.).

Squats, toe raises and dead lifts. the explosive muscles in jumping will be affected by these exercises. Also back extensions and core work is critical. You are really close...just a bit more and you are there. Can you palm the basketball....that helps?

By toe raises, do you mean calf raises? As far as palming goes, I can palm the ball, I wouldn't say easily by any means but I can palm it.

About 10.5" for me, maybe a foot on a good day. :D

Yes....calf raises....sorry, always called them toe raises because I go up on my toes. I am about the same way palming. If you can't you have to be able to get a little higher to either two-hand or cup it in the crook of your wrist and forearm.

I used to be able to dunk like that. Now I can hit the net really hard and make it stick on the rim.

I can do it if im by myself but I imagine it'd be a lot more difficult in any game that I'm playing in. Hopefully I can get to the point that i am high enough where it doesn't matter.

Good luck. I was a an ok warm-up dunker, but had to be just right to actually do it in any kind of game. I couldn't dunk at all until I was in college playing intramurals and rec. ball. But I am 6'2", so I have a little bit of a head start. I don't think my vertical was ever over 30", and I could flat-footed reach up a few inches over 8 ft. so I didn't have a lot of extra room to work with.

 I'll have to see what I can do. If they're too embarrassing, I'll have to keep those to myself!
