The Dragons go on the road and knock off the Elizabethtown Panthers on Senior Night. E-Town was led by Nic McDonald with 26 big points. Warren Central was led by Edwards who had 14, followed by Carver with 12. But it was Chris Porter-Bunton who led Warren Central in the 4th Quarter, after sitting a good portion of the game with foul trouble. He had six of their 14 points in the final period, including the buzzer beater layup for the win. The Dragons had led 72-68 before Nic McDonald scored on a bucket and 1 to draw within 1. After a Dragon turnover the Panthers drew the blocking foul on Carver, sending Cotton to the line for two. He hit both with 7 seconds remaining to set up the finish.

A big factor was after E-Town hit seven threes in the first half, they hit only one in the second, at the midpoint of the third quarter. E-Town was also hurt with their big man Hardin in constant foul trouble, sitting most of the first half and a good portion of the second as well, drawing his fourth foul early in the fourth quarter.

Warren Central seems to have a history of playing poorly in December, but peaking around tournament time.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them make some noise in the postseason.

I can't recite their exact performances in previous seasons, but they sure do always seem to be in the thick of things. Really good program.

Pretty well spot on, though poorly is relative - they still win a lot in December. Some of it is because they typically feature several football players in prominent roles, and so it takes them time to work in. Probably other reasons, but they just always seem to struggle in the Christmas tourneys before kicking it into gear by February.

Right. I know when they won it all they had a very pedestrian start to the season, a lot due to their football.

How many of their contributors this year played football?

Five major players come from the football team, including three starters (and likely the three best players on the team). Plus one of the two that doesn't start suffered a broken ankle during the season, and didn't play his first game until the Republic Bank Classic.

I'm assuming that would be Green, Porter-Bunton, and Carver?

I believe I overheard Green's dad say he's going to play football at the next level.

Those are the three majors. The two off the bench are Robert Edwards and Chris Amos. Edwards led the Dragons in scoring today.

Green is going to play football at Indiana State on full scholarship. Porter-Bunton initially committed to Tennessee State for football, but changed his mind and is going to play basketball. Hasn't committed yet.
