38th District Tournament Draw

Featured Replies

Well first off HHS has been to the Sweet Sixteen, in fact more times that most schools in the Ninth so much for your football school take.... and show me, tell me, what state does it better than what Kentucky does $$$$$ wise and then we can talk!

You just don't get it do you! The money the KHSAA makes on the Sweet Sixteen allows all the other sports to have their state tourneys.

Think Football, think the ALL "A" and then tell me why you think the crowds will come out in force to see what you want the KHSAA to buy! :ohbrother:

Ohhh I get "IT". I guess to some ppl it all a money game. Big schools big money keepin little schools under thier thumb. Like in society. Big money keepin the little man down.

I agree money is important but at the cost on small town schools is not right and I don't care what anyone says about it.

You keep on supporting the big money operation and I will keep hoping for a change. I will just have to settle for first round region appearances and be happy with district runner ups. It's all good.

Thanks for the debate though. I am always down for a discussion on opposing views. :-)

I understand why you want to change it, I really do but the Sweet Sixteen has been going on since I believe 1918 and your not going to change it to make certain schools happy just to say we played in a state championship game.

Money is needed to operate state tourneys like Track and Field, Cross Country, Fishing, Golf and others events, as they just don't generated enough revenue to have them.

I wish it weren't this way but the reality is, no money, no games, as officials, venues, insurance and other cost have to be paid and right now, the money the KHSAA makes off the Sweet Sixteen foots the bills and no, when you water down the product (see Indiana for one and I spoke of Florida and I know it is that way in Ohio) the money drops and if the money drops, you have to cut something...

The drive isn't the problem.

Still worried about the crowd fitting in the gym I guess?

At the state track meet, they charge $10 a head and gouge you on overpriced concessions and t-shirts, etc. They aren't loosing any money there and the place is packed to overflowing.

I am just interested it how it will go. It obviously is a concern if you have the crowds of the past along with the bands. Because this gym is 1700 seats smaller than HC and 1000 seats smaller than NC. Hopefully no one is turned away.

Ditto Cross-Country!

Classifying basketball isn't the answer. If it is based on enrollment you are going to still have the traditional small powerhouses (especially in NoKy) going every year. The beneficiaries would be the not-so-good bigger schools who might slide in on occasion.

The Daytons, Ludlows, Bellevues, Silver Groves, Villas, and at the moment Beechwood, along wth the Christian schools aren't going to go. The better smaller schools have the same enrollment or less than many of those mentioned, BUT have better basketball programs and feeder programs.

The way to get it right and get some representation from those small schools who don't have a chance under the present arrangement, would be to write conditions like in horseracing:

Class A - For all small schools with enrollment under 400 who have not won a distirct tournament, nor a regional tournament game in ten years. (This would produce a "best of the worst state champion")

ClassAA - For all small schools with enrollment under 400 who have not won an All "A" Regional Tournament nor been a KHSAA Regional Tournament champion or runner-up in the past five years.

ClassAAA - All other schools with enrollment under 400.

Then the same for the big schools.

Sheer fantasy, it ain't gonna happen.

I think tis is the closest thing to a solution that I've heard yet. A starting point at least.
