February 15, 201412 yr Author [video=youtube_share;oJwWmz8Mp3U] More Afghan Whigs. I completely forgot about this video. Wonder what that shoot was like with a weirdo like Dulli to have to deal with? I bet that's his old neighborhood in Hamilton.

February 15, 201412 yr Since Jim gave exposure to some local Cincy stuff, this came to mind. Here's a local ambitious band "The Bad Veins". This tune has been around a few years and never quite got the exposure it deserved. Poppy and catchy with heart. If they keep plugging away I think they have a future. Saw them at the Taft Ballroom during Cincy's MPMF with Daughter and Bear's Den. In a way this reminds me a little bit of the Strokes because of the vocals, and I never was big on The Strokes' hype, but I do dig this song.
February 15, 201412 yr Was in Edinburgh, Scotland a few days ago and came across this street dude named Pete G. Nicholson sitting across from the St. Giles Cathedral while I walking the Royal Mile. Sat with him for about an hour as we swapped tunes with each other and talked about music and life in general etc... Pretty cool dude. This is him singing lead in his band "Folk Rag". He played this and numerous other tunes while I hung out with him. Powerful live voice with great resonance and that's not easy to do on noisy streets. He's also the keyboardist and backup vocalist in another band from Edinburgh called "Echo Arcadia" that he says will be touring the US in the near future and will be coming through the midwest. I'll have to keep my eyes open and hopefully he comes close to Cincy.
February 15, 201412 yr Here's another tune that Pete played for me while hanging out with him on the street. Sounded really good with his guitar, and his voice live sent chills.
February 15, 201412 yr [video=youtube_share;zw5VrD_d3fE]http://youtu.be/zw5VrD_d3fE Hope Sandoval. Mmmm … Really dug her first couple releases and anxiously anticipated her Cincy Bogarts show where she came to the stage after what seemed to be an eternal intermission and played the entire show under and extreme dim red light where you could barely see her or her band mates on stage even while we were standing directly in front of her. I knew that her show would be mellow, but then again they sorta took the mellow thing beyond the limit to the point that the audience ended up sitting on the floor and my group of friends and I fought off the urge to fall asleep. If they were going for that effect they certainly succeeded. I suppose in a way Hope is on the shy side because she not once spoke to the crowd. Hanging around the house listening to her tunes proved to be much more worth it than actually attending a show.
