to quote coach "K" from duke,"best thing about freshmen is.......they become sophomores". getting opinions on a bunch of 14 year old's really isn't fair to the kids. who are these people who are reporting on them? it really doesn't matter. talk is cheap.let me see it on the field!!! i'll bet 80% of them aren't as good as people think,but that's just the nature of the beast when your talking about someones kid.of that 80%,i'd say only 50% will be playing when they are seniors!!! my thing is....JUST LET THEM PLAY, enjoy the game,then move on!!! life is to short!!! i've been coaching in n.ky./cinn. area for a LONG time. so i have pretty much seen it all!!! oh....sorry for ranting....lol!! I totally agree... I know one outstanding player that in my eyes is the best pitcher NCC will ever see and that is Jared Iles he is 8th grader trying out for freshman team. He is a beast and I haven't seen any other kid pitch better then him yet. But just because he's good don't mean he don't have to try out and is a walk on... lol so foolish.

 

Not sure if this post is sarcasm or not but if not, I don't think you can say an 8th grader is the best pitcher NCC has ever seen. They have had quite a few good ones throughout the years.

Over the summer teams wouldn't even attempt to run on him, he was picking kids off on a regular basis at first and third. I do recall one time over the river at Rumpke, he picked off a runner who was taunting him at second, something you don't see on a normal basis.

 

Stealing bases can be attributed to pitchers as much as catchers. Although it does help to have a strong arm behind the plate.

Ethan Doty has been playing frosh since 7th grade. I would imagine he will start jv and quite possibly play some varsity as a frosh. If Ethan was playing at some other schools around NKy he would definately be a full time starter and pitcher for varsity. It just so happens that HHS is extremely deep at the varsity level as far as pitching goes. I beleive they only lost one pitcher from their region qualifying team..

Better question regarding HHS frosh baseball will be whether or not they will need 8th graders this year. From my understanding, they have 20 plus frosh signed up to play. Anyone other than Doty that could see time at the JV and/or Varsity level? Who are some of the pitchers that they have at the varsity level?

Who left? My understanding that the same coach will be there as last year on a part time basis and that Brad Wolfzorn will be the head coach. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Ya know you maybe right he's Dad Jerry Isles was a great pitcher to for NCC so you do have a point. But I totally agree with one comment it's left to be seen... so we can revisit in 4 years when Jared is a senior... lol

One of the top freshman in NKY and maybe the state is Highlands catcher Ethan Doty. He has a tremendous work ethic and is solid offensively as well as defensively. Pitching wise, he already is being clocked at 82-83 mph as well as the nastiest cutter I have seen from a high school ball player in a while.

If that is all true, he will be aging JV and not freshman ball. Hope to get a chance to watch him!!
