Do you evaluate whether or not to purchase something based upon what you read on here. I do not know if I would say unenthused as much as I might say intimidated. As Coach said, once they played free and loose things started happening. Very disconcerting to me to read stuff on here from people that do not attend the games.

What is intimidating about Newport?

You tell me. I did not play, but based upon what I saw there was the feeling that they were playing Holmes or NCC for that matter. Too worried about shots being blocked and making unnecessary adjustments rather than just going strong to the hoop and letting happen what happens. Brandon Hergott did a very good job of this very thing in the second half and the Birds had a lot of success. Confidence is a big thing, especially in high school sports and I am not sure there are many that have great confidence in themselves right now, but it is coming. They have looked much better over the last few weeks and now they need to learn how to close out games at the end. The kids believe in everything that Coach Listerman is telling them, now they just need to see the results on a more consistent basis to allow that confidence level to continue to rise.

I'm thinking it is a challenge for the hoopsters as they don't get the support that the football team gets. No students traveled to Newport for the game. Do the still have the TNDC? With the winning tradition the football team has, it has to be rough to struggle in the win column for this team. They are hard nosed kids. I'm assuming they will get Newport again in the districts and I would not be shocked if it was a different end result.

Well said TAC. I said that exact same thing yesterday. They know they can play with Newport and now they just need to continue to get better until they meet up again for a trip to the regional tourney.

I didn't know you had to attend the games to comment. I'm sure if I had attended some games, my comments would be more pointed. However thats not going to happen, so I guess I'll just read along.

Usually better to make comments after seeing for yourself rather than replying and/or making statements based upon what posters put out there.

How can a team that's not going to win many games this year NOT be fired up against a team they actually have a chance to beat? Is it a cumulative effect as a result of the season?

I can't imagine a competitor not coming out hard for ANY game much less a game they can win.

Culture has been this way for a couple of years. It may be a cumulative result of several seasons.

I would never question the competitiveness of these boys. I know what they are capable of and know what they have accomplished in other sports. Something definitely missing. Way too much negativity.

Ryle tonight and Dayton on Saturday. I can see an end to the stinkyboy jinx in sight.

Snapp is an outstanding player and prospect on the next level. The question is at what level right now with the weight concerns. He is a threat to shoot when he steps in the gym. Wait, correction...gets off the bus. To say he is 145 lbs., would be "stretching it".
